No amount of exercise and salt reduction would control my blood pressure. Mine requires two different medicines. It’s necessary for me as we don’t want to risk kidney damage. Amlodipine not only reduces my blood pressure, but it significantly reduced my Raynaud’s symptoms.
I do notice that if I get up too quickly, I am dizzy for a second or two. But the benefit is well worth it. I can shop and buy frozen foods without worrying about my fingers turning white. With my genetics, it was when I would get high blood pressure, not if.
when my husband was diagnosed with high BP he was prescribed Amilopodine and we cut out a lot of salt. He is 61, 5’10” and weighs 12 3/4 stone. His BP is the same two years later but continues to take the medication on the basis that Dr knows best?
he has yearly checks but no change to BP or dose. High BP runs in his family. I’m tempted to stop the medication as the PIL cites joint issues with use and after two years he has started to experience random joint pain. I realise it would be wise to seek advice and reduce slowly.
my situation is probably unique . If I have any starchy food my blood pressure goes from 120/72 to 160/80 in one day. I found this out after blacking out for a few seconds while driving, all tests neg, so I kept a food diary with BP taken 2 times a day. I cannot not even have 1 teaspoon of arrowroot to thicken anything. To check if anything has starch in it you can put a bit of iodine on a sample food, if it turns black it contains starch.. google the london diet if interestered
