Just to say I had a 4th covid vaccination on Saturday (17 Sept) along with the flu jab, and today have woken up to a lupus flare - the first I have had in a long time. I take hydroxychloroquine and have prednisolone to hand for use during a flare, but have decided not take the steroids in case it interferes with what the Moderna vac.is trying to do. I don't know if this is co-incidental as I felt extremely tired on Saturday and Sunday anyway. My symptoms of a flare are rash all over torso, splitting headache which will not go (except with use of prednisolone) stiff neck, swollen glands, extreme fatigue, aching body/joints. I'm not looking for any advice as such, just want to record that I have had a reaction after having Moderna, in combination with flu jab. My previous vaccinations were 2 x Astrazenica and 1 x Pfizer with no side effects whatsover.

Sorry you are suffering so. I had the Moderna Bivariant booster (no flu Jab) and it knocked me for six. Kept testing myself for Covid as I felt dreadful, 48 hrs later, I am beginning to feel human. Good idea not to take the steroids as my understanding is that they will affect the efficacy of the jab. Hope you feel a bit better soon but if the flare continues you should speak to your Rheumy team. I have been left with continuing intercostal inflammation from the flu jab last year, so don't ignore it long term. x
Hi Rosie, Thanks for replying so quickly. Interesting to note you had a wipe out reaction as well. I wondered if mine was the double whammy of having the flu jab at the same time, which I was a bit dubious about. I was also concerned about having Moderna - but we have little choice, do we - take it or leave it! I have managed to avoid Covid all this time so didn't want to tempt fate! I will contact my rheumy if it goes on (but I don't hold out much hope with her!) Take care and keep well.
Hi....im steroid dependent and recently had a steroid increase due a deterioration in my breathing. Im also heavily immunosuppressed. I also had flu and my 6th covid vaccine on saturday .ive had a headache,stiff hands and feet ,aches and feel quite sleepy but it will pass so for me i will ride it out .my worst reaction was to vaccine no4 which sent me stiff for days but again it passed. Oh I've got someone coming to look and see if I need more loft insulation so that'll be a highlight! Hope the vet visit is just routine. Given no choice, Suvi. I suppose I could have refused but goodness knows if I would ever have been given the opportunity to have an alternative.

I'm trying to find out more about Moderna and wonder where there is information about moderna being problematic - I had moderna as a booster last December and had what appeared to be a lymph node reaction to it (not in side of jab but in my often reactionary right side), which included pain in the breast tissue. Now my GP surgery can only offer spikevax, I had pfizer as spring booster via vaccination centre.
But I have sent an email to covid enquiries to see if pfizer is available at the vaccination centre. Had chat with GP this morning, she suggested that I contact covid enquiries. She suggested that an option was not to have a booster if moderna the only thing on offer.
I had Moderna as a booster with no ill effects whatsoever. My others have all been Pfizer.

I’m always strictly shielding and mask up in crowded spaces with little ventilation. I personally don’t want covid on my skin and in my body despite vaccination. Covid variants are happening all the time.
i have been extremely careful. Do almost all shopping online for delivery. My husband is a pediatrician and my son and his fiancé are both pediatric residents. My son caught Covid while working in the ER, but neither my husband or I did. My husband wears an N95 mask at work except for his lunch break which he eats alone in his office. We are still only doing online church services. Anytime I am inside a building other than my house, I am wearing an N95. Not sure when I’m going to stop. My lungs are my lupus’s organ of choice to attack.

i had a similar reaction, but it only lasted a day and a half, so I think for me it was just a vaccine reaction not a flare.
Sorry to hear you’ve had reaction to your vaccination. I too had my 4th in June which like your self was moderna all my previous had been Pfizer. I didn’t have a flare but I did feel extremely unwell for at least a week after. I have had my email request for my 5th last week which I shall have, but I made the decision not to have both flue and COVID together as I always react to flue. So I want to know which one I’m reacting too if that makes sense.
However I’m just getting over COVID which knocked me for six. But I can’t praise the NHS enough at there speedy response. As soon as I registered my test result, A triage nurse from our local hospital rang me to see if I meet the criteria for antiviral treatment ,which I did. Within two hours a doctor from the COVID ward rang and talked me through my medication and what antiviral he would prescribe. Within a hour the hospital pharmacy rang me again going through everything the doctor had said. Half an hour later my daughter had picked up the tablets. And I then managed to take my first set of treatments by 10.30 am.
However I will still be getting my next booster despite having COVID after the required 28 days.

I have not yet had my 4th jab but my husband was given his yesterday along with the flu jab. He has a chronic lung condition. He feels so unwell that he is in bed and is taking paracetamol for the high temperature. Hopefully this will only be a 24hour thing.
I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's reaction. I can't help but wonder if having the 2 jabs together is a particularly good idea for those of us who are compromised. Please let me know how he is in a day or so. I have reported the effects via the Yellow Card system. Haven't used it before and found it quite complicated so I hope I did it right! Personally I would ask to have them separately if I were you (now having had an adverse reaction which would probably be poo-pooed by the medics and I know we're not supposed to be giving 'advice' on here - this is just my personal feeling). i had my 5th Moderna vaccine last week. Only side effects were a slightly sore arm and mild fatigue. I live in the USA and had a choice of Pfeizer or Moderna. Physician husband said Modena since it is the stronger booster of the two. He also told me to wait a few weeks to take the flu vaccine.
Hi, me too, had both jabs one in each arm and my arms and joints are so painful, nausea and splitting headache, total fatigue, can hardly put one foot in front of other, we just have to see it through again, had two weeks of it with Pfizer one too xx
So sorry to hear of your reaction. I had two Pfizers, 3 weeks apart in Feb 2021 and was so horribly ill for the first two months that I felt I might as well have had the actual virus! It was worse than having pains from lupus. On top of it I still suffered for the next two months further before I felt better. When the third Pfizer vaccine time came, I had a new doctor who advised me to take two paracetamols beforehand and it made such a huge difference. Perhaps having the flu shot with it made it so much worse for you. My husband just got his fourth and he chose to wait a few weeks for the flu shot. He told me it was the right decision as this Moderna vaccine was so much stronger and he was actually ill for two days and still felt not right for another two days. I am not going for the fourth as my new doctor advised me against it. He felt that three vaccines should be enough. So far I haven't caught the covid. Hope you feel much better soon. 🙏
What a horrible time you've both had, Paprika, especially you. Can I ask out of curiosity why you had 2 Pfizers three weeks apart? I think your husband is right to delay his flu vaccination. I feel that must have been why I had such a bad reaction, but I'm feeling OK now 5 days after having the Moderna, so it hasn't been so bad after all. Thank you very much for your good wishes. Per your question, I had my first Pfizer almost right away when it was rolled out last Feb 21. My doctor then was working on the antibody study of Covid vaccine and the protocol was three weeks apart, not three months, for the second vaccine. I was dead serious about not getting the second so soon because I was so unwell but he really pushed me to go with it as they didn't want to waste the vaccine due to its strict temperature control policy. It was only later that the Government decided to experiment with three months apart to vaccinate as many as possible, which ended up being the wise decision. My learning lesson from this is never go with something when your instinct says the opposite and also to take paracetamols beforehand. Good to hear you are much better. Take care X

Update to my rather casual comment about the Moderna (above). I had the bivalent Moderna booster on Wednesday morning. I also had a busy day on Wednesday so may have been tired yesterday anyway - but did not expect to be so wiped out I couldn't function. Happily, I feel better this morning - but pretty sure the vaccine had something to do with yesterday's fog'n'fatigue.
Hi WS, presume you didn't have the flu jab at the same time? I think in view of the potency of the Moderna, it's a bit of 'overkill' to be giving the flu jab as well. That's what I'm thinking anyway. No - just the covid booster.
I'm new on here and just finding my way around, I've recently been diagnosed with cutaneous lupus and am still very much at sea trying to understand it, I am very concerned about having the Covid vaccine in case of a flare up, i have had rashes for nearly 2 years but only finally got the diagnosis in July, still waiting for a hospital appointment to confirm as diagnosis was made by dermatologist in a community clinic. Hi SCR, All I can say is we are all different in the lupus 'family' and we all react differently. I was fine with the first 3 vaccinations I had last year, then reacted last week to the 4th, but that could have been because I had the Covid vaccination at the same time as the flu jab, and maybe it was too much for my system to cope with. Do you have any contact information for the consultant you will be seeing at your hospital when you get an appointment that you could talk to? Have you had an invite to take up your Covid vaccination soon? Take care and try not to worry. We are all in the same boat and will try to support you. x

The appointment I had with a community dermatologist earlier this month was cancelled, I really did want to ask advice on the vaccinations. I saw my GP today who advises to have the Covid Jab, I am going tomorrow for it, I hope it will be Phizer but don't know until the day, I have my flu jab booked for the 17th October I'm not brave enough to have them together. I do so hope you have recovered well, also everyone else on here who have had bad reactions to the Covid Vaccine. I just hope I don't get a flare, I also get flares of vasculitis. Hi SCR, Good luck tomorrow with the Covid jab. As Paprika said on here earlier, you might want to take paracetamol before you go for it (if it agrees with you) - I have done that before dental treatment and it seems to help! Very wise of you to have the flu jab at a later date. That was my downfall I think- having them both on the same day. Don't hesitate to reach out on here any time. Hi LarksOng, thank you for your kind wishes, I had my Moderna Covid jab on tuesday, thankfully no serious reaction or flare so far, very tired on wednesday but i also was after my Pfizer booster last October, my arm this time was the least sore of having the other three jabs which was a pleasant surprise. I have had my invite today but I am petrified of having it. I had a reaction with my last one which still has not been sorted fully and I am also struggling with chronic fatigue I don’t want to be any worse. I am going to speak to my gp Monday as I have an appointment anyway.
I can understand your nervousness about having your next vaccination. Good idea to speak with your GP as I can't really advise you - it's a personal choice, together with listening to medical advice. Which brand did you have last time round? The only other thing I would suggest is to delay having your flu vaccination if you are eligible for one til a later date. Let us know how you get on. The last one was Moderna, my previous 2 were Pfizer. I have a flu jab booked in already but I’m not worried about that as I’ve had them for years for asthma and never had a problem. I will let you know what the dr says Monday.
I was just meaning maybe have your flu vac on a different date, that's all. I've been having flu jabs for 13 years with no side effects but never at the same time as any other! All the best for Monday.

I had flu jab Saturday im flaring bit anyway i was very tired slept more than usal.
Sore arm etc only started yesterday
I had covid booster in August moderna
I was told not take methotrexate week of jab so i didn't.
My next boosters due December
I had sore arm 10 days as got fibromyalgia that area.
My lupus rash etc all came up but soon calmed.
You can feel like got flu or bad headcold i was told .
So not a reaction
Flu jab ive felt like flu type symptoms
Now iiid see flare like symptoms as body way dealing with jabs
Reaction i was told is swollen arm red hot jab area that gets bigger and bigger athylatic shock throat closing.
Id seek medical input to clarify
