I am thinking of getting some Tattoo artwork done. Worried about infection, having a reaction. I know everyone reacts/ heals differently but any lupies out there had one?
Tattoo : I am thinking of getting some Tattoo... - LUPUS UK
Tattoo
Hi yes I’ve got some but then again I had them done before I was diagnosed with Lupus x
I would definitely mention it to your docs 1st for advice, as there might be a reaction that could lead to a flare. Or one type of ink might be better than an other?
I'm sure when I was 1st diagnosed, tattoos were on the long list of things not to just get done without speaking to them 1st, including any ops, even they were minor including dental work, however my skin is very rashy and sensitive.
Good luck with it, hope it goes well without too much pain x
Hi. Many thanks for replying. I did speak with the Specialist Nurse and it was the usual they did not say yay or nay! 😂
Yeah, I was wondering the same thing, bc I have tried and failed to have my ears pierced bc my body hates it and never will calm down. But would like a shoulder sleeve. Let me know how you get on if you decide to
All the best
Lottie
I’ve gotten two tattoos since diagnosis. The first was color and I reacted with my skin becoming raised, bumpy, and itchy. After healing I was fine and decided to get a second as I had an opportunity to get a tattoo from an amazing artist. This one was was just black and white. At the time I had no reactions. I did talk to my dermatologist beforehand because I do get rashes. He said he really didn’t know how someone with lupus would react.
Since then I have had some minor problems with my tattoos. I sometimes get itchy rash bumps on the line work of the black and white (on my leg). Tattoo artist said I might actually be rejecting the ink, even though it is years later. The color tattoo has not given any trouble (on my side). It is possible I am reacting to the ink, but it is also possible my it is locational and my lupus related rash appears or what my body sees as damaged skin.
Sorry if this is a little late but I thought I’d tell you my story as there really isn’t much information out there. Good luck.
