I can’t remember where I saw it but I read something about a new discovery that leaky gut is linked to arthritis and some gut medications being used for arthritis as a result. Does anyone know if this theory or indeed the research covered lupus as well? I have read about the theory in the past and was hoping that there might be a scientific breakthrough in this regard potentially leading to new lupus treatments. Thanks.

Someone posted this on a scleroderma & Raynaud’s forum. Hope it extends to us with rarer rheumatic autoimmune diseases too. I had a terrible bout of poisoning (food or a chemical I accidentally ingested) followed by Swine flu in late 2010 and then woke up one day a few months after unable to walk or move my hands for pain. My GP initially thought it was reactive/ post viral arthritis but he took blood tests and then diagnosed RA and referred me straight to a rheumatologist.
I only had RA/ inflammatory arthritis for 2 years before then getting rediagnosed with Sjögren’s and now systemic sclerosis - overlap CTD. My guts are now shot beyond repair so this idea makes total sense to me. I was already an autoimmuner from childhood though.
Wow, you’ve really been through it. Very interesting to hear your story, thank you for sharing.
