I wanted to ask if anyone has any (ideally success) stories of using a Paleo diet / supplements / Leaky gut protocol to decrease their Lupus symptoms or even put it into remission?
I've been a big fan of functional medicine but have only recently applied their principles strictly and in 10 days I've already noticed a massive decrease in symptoms. I'm hoping it continues and my antibodies decrease. Feel free to private message!
Thanks!

I am not doing paleo but after a few months of eating a high fiber diet, increased exercise and mindfulness meditation my beta 2 glgoprotiens dropped from 150 to now under 20. My Ana is negative aswell, my sed rate is under 2 from 13 and my CRP went from 5.6 to 3.2 and I feel great. Gut health is so important! Good luck.
Yes!! Yes yes yes. I have Lupus, fibromyalgia, Hashimotos (thyroid) and many other autoimmune diseases. I was bedridden and 80 pounds overweight due to steroid medications. There were many times my doctors told us I wouldn’t live much longer. I tried every diet and vitamin company that I could find with no improvements. I felt like a waste of a life and a burden on my husband and all hope was gone.
But then our 22 year old daughter died.
She had given birth to a baby boy a few months before, and was a single mom, so my husband and I are raising him & recently finalized his adoption. Imagine it; there I was-deathly ill, grieving my beautiful daughter and suddenly the mother of a 4 month old premature newborn! I decided at that moment that I would do whatever necessary to get better and finally tried a certain set of supplements that focus on correcting & maintaining gut health after 2 years of a dear friend trying to get me to try it. She is a functional medicine practitioner & my chiropractor’s wife. These supplements have completely changed my life! I have lost 90 pounds since March 2017 (all visceral fat, no muscle), my lupus & Hashimoto’s is in remission for the first time in 2 decades and my adrenal glands suddenly started working on their own! When I began the supplements I was taking 54 prescriptions medications. I have weaned off ALL but 2 of them including both steroids I was taking & both kinds of chemo I was on! The 2 meds I still take are for anxiety and depression from complicated grief. My daughter’s death has been very hard for me. But back to the supplements-after 2 1/2 months of taking them I developed energy and a sense of well-being for the first time in my entire life ! There’s no more pain, exhaustion or brain fog from fibromyalgia, and the steroid weight shed off & is staying off!
There was a recent study out of NYU proving a direct link between lupus/autoimmune disease and leaky gut/bad gut health:
20 years ago I had a brilliant doctor tell me that my autoimmune problems were directly related to my poor gut health but we just thought he was crazy. Turns out he was right! I am so grateful for the life that’s been given back to me. After sleeping the last 10 years away stuck in bed, I feel like I’ve been let out of prison and these supplements are the key! And most importantly, I am able to be the kind of mother my daughter would want for her precious little boy to have. If you want info on the exact supplements I’m taking, email me at joyalinc@gmail.com or friend me on FB at facebook.com/joy.ali
I just wanted to say how sorry I am to hear about your daughter. So so tragic to hear of her passing. I’m so happy that you are doing so much better and will be able to give her little boy such a fantastic life!
I am so sorry to hear about your daughter but thrilled that Functional Medicine has been able to help you so wonderfully. This gives me so much hope! I am 24 years old and have Coeliac, Hashimotos and now I think I am developing Lupus symptoms however after only being on the functional medicine regime for two weeks, I already feel so much better. Sending lots of support!
And so now you have seen the success of helping the gut you are able to let others know.
It's a shame that allopathic doctors only deal with specific body parts and never venture over lines. That's where functional doctors come into their own. By looking at the whole they are able to look at what is working and what is not, and treat accordingly.
Is it just coincidence that for many years, perhaps 20 years prior to diagnosis, I was known to eat like a horse without ever putting on any weight? I often wondered whether I might not be absorbing nutrients properly. But it was never investigated as a problem because although I could eat most others off the table, i was never particularly ill at that time period.
Even after being diagnosed with various autoimmune issues it was not until much later that any attention was paid to gut issues.
I have learnt so much more from my own reading and research regards gut issues than has ever been relayed to me from my highly regarded allopathic team.
In the past I have mentioned some of the things I have learned along the way to my team. But they have to strictly adhere to the tennants of their allopathic training.
Now that I understand this, it saves me frustration. They are masters within their specialities within a specific mode of medicine. But whether the allopathic model is the best for dealing with chronic conditions is debatable.
There again, in the UK it is the only NHS funded option.
But if you opt to pay for treatment then the options are wider than just seeing an allopathic doctor. If you have been lucky enough to do enough research to guide you in the right directions.
