Photo sensitivity

Hi again , not that I've been outside much in this dreadful UK weather but I'm new to all this and still learning, so can I please ask what you all use on your Lupus skin to stay safe in the sun ! I suffer terrible red cutaneous rashes on my face and neck and also eczema/dermatitis and rosacea so my skin is very sensitive and quite allergic too !

Do you have any recommendations for a sunscreen, not the thick white variety, one that will sit under make up ! Am looking at 70 to 100 spf broad spectrum , I don't know where to start , any suggestions please . I have hats etc 🙏

Hi Sevenstar1 Roche Posay factor 50 is lovely .. great for sensitive skin and not too thick or expensive . Recommended by dermatologists . Can buy from boots/Superdrug or online . Best I’ve ever used (I’ve tried a lot 😉)

Walaroo hat company or sun sense do lovely hats factor 50 . Fantastic as they fold up really small and when you wear one with big glasses everyone thinks you’re famous 😂. Bit of an investment but they last forever .

Take care xx

Aveeno factor 70 is pretty good, (I think only on Amazon in Uk ) I have some items from Solbari which is an Australian company, I am particularly happy with my driving gloves, a little pricey but well worth it.

Hi Stevenstar1.I think I have tried them all from cheaper brands to very expensive. My Consultant at Guys informed me there was no benefit in purchasing the more expensive ones so I tried Nivea 50+ and have found it to be the best and much less expensive..It also has UVA andcUVB protection too.. I have polymorfic light eruption..hope this helps..have a lovely day 🌻🌻🌻

With your allergic tendencies, I would recommend a zinc based sunscreen. I had years of photosensitive rashes that were caused not by my autoimmune disease but photosensitivity along with chemicals in sunscreen. It is common to switch people to zinc based sunscreen after reactions. But most doctors -at least in my experience - do not know this reaction is part of the photosensitivity continuum.

Face veils have been life changing for me. That is the only way to fully protect your face from sun - physical barrier.

Take care and hope that helps.

Kay that's absolutely right, same here , sun screens have so many chemicals in them, I will search a good zinc based one ! Many thanks 🙏

Do you have Elta MD in the UK? That was the one my dermatologist recommended. I bought Cerave facial moisturizer - very light - and used for body. Very good too

You definitely need zinc based sunscreen if you already notice you don’t get eruptions with Cerave. Good you posted!
