I’ve only been diagnosed few months ago and still learning lots about Lupus and how to manage it.
Has anyone used successfully Benadryl tablets to keep under control hive looking like lupus rash? I came off prednisolone and only on hydroxy now and these rashes have started showing more - ( only on my feet )- I have tried vitamin E oil, aloe vera gel, itch relief e 45 cream, antihistamine cream , bicarbonate of soda but aren’t helping with shortening the healing process or frequency.
Thank you 🙏

I find it worsens if as my skinn reacts to different types of soaps sometimes and doesn't tend to go down. I have it a lot on my hands and find it quite difficult to find anything that settles it and it's so unpredictable!
I try my best to avoid perfumed soaps and If I tend to eat badly e.g. lots of sugar in my diet it does come up more. If I find anything that works I'll definitely let you know!
I hope it clears for you soon. It’s only in my feet for me for now and even though I am on a AIP protocol and feel really good, these rashes are coming up, not sure if stress ad tiredness has anything to do with it?
I have a rash that looks the same, on my palms, the back of my hands, both arms and legs. A doctor told me to buy some hydrocortisone cream (to use twice a day) and a very thick moisturising cream (perhaps with aloe vera) to use during the day. He didn't seem to know exactly what it was though. I have just started this and it has stopped the itching and looks better already. The Hydro cream is Canesten and also used for athlete's foot.
Do those tiny dry white spots/flakes of skin scrape off easily using a fingernail? Or razor?
Just wondering whether it’s psoriasis!🤔
My heels looks a bit like that with hard patches of flaky dry white skin. Itchy and flaky skin which comes with scratching.
Try moisturizer with urea eg Flexitol, Dermatonics etc.
Unfortunately with lupus the skin cycle is around 10 times faster than normal so sufferers are producing more dead skin?Does this mean we should scrape it off or leave it to come off on its own?🤔🤷🏻♂️🤷🏽♀️
I believe in the pic it’s just a bit shiny due to cream but it’s not actually flaky at all... starts as little white itchy pin pricks then they go reddish and itchy after couple of days. They tend to settle down overnight and during day but get itchy and more red in colour only in evening. Average they last 7-15 days and once they heal the skin stays slightly darker for a few weeks until it finally disappears . I did not know skin cycle is faster on lupus sufferers...
Get your doctor to look at it plenty creams able to prescibe for it that will help clear it up I find betnovate particularly helpful but many types your gp will decide.
I have no redness but terrible itching. Can be anywhere from scalp to soles of feet. Prednisone/prednisolone helps but trying to keep low dose as possible (i can no longer stay off it completely.)
What keeps me from unintentionally scratching holes in my skin due to frequent and severe itching is the mildest and only fragrance-free everything—laundry detergent, mildest deodorant, shampoo, rarely can use other hair products, no cosmetics, etc.
Also the mildest and only fragrance-free emollient cleansers like Aveeno, doublebase gel (moisturiser prescribed by my GP), and a topical steroid ointment called mometasone (to deal with severe itching, prescribed by my GP). I Keep Mometasone tube in each room in the house, one under my pillow and one in my handbag (well, I used to, when I used to occasionally go out)! Sometimes worse at night so have to use extra of mild laundry detergent to wash the ointment out of my pyjamas!
For Scalp I use betacap (not greasy, a thin liquid, from GP).
Appreciate it I’ll see to try these and I’ll ask GP about them as well. Thank you , fragrance free sounds like a good idea for sensitive , prone to rashes skin. I hadn’t had these until I ‘ve reached a very low dose on prednisone so they must’ve really helped but I need to come off steroids and i guess it’s trial and error until i find something that works for me. Stay safe and take care
Hi, I take prescription antihistamines, quite a high dose, 180mg 4 times a day,( fexofenadine) and they are the only thing that’s ever worked to control the rashes/itching. Might be worth asking to try them?
