Hi, I gained weight very rapidly, my hands , legs harms , abdomen they’re feeling bloated, I’ve been taking prednisone low doses and I’m not taking it atm , my thyroids are fine , bloods ok , just the usual inflammation. I’m thinking water retention , all the symptoms are there , I’m not eating fat , sugar , I’m drinking water , green tea etc . Everyday I seems fatter and fatter . I’m going to talk by phone with a gp this afternoon, I was wondering if anyone on here is on some type of medication for water retention.
Thank you , always grateful for your help. 😊

Hi, hope you are okay!😊 How long ago did you stop prednisone? Because when I was taking prednisone I was told to go on a low salt/ sugar/ fat diet (an emphasis on low salt) because it can cause water retention! And how has lupus affected you?kidneys?joints? I would suggest not looking for medication of water retention but the root of the problem, which will make water retention go on its own!🙌
Hi, I have inflammation in my joints , muscles , weakness doing the stairs etc, in my bloods done only a couple of weeks ago kidney were fine , ck was high but not as high as it used to be , a random gp gave me some water tablets over the phone , after reading this responses I’m not sure if taking it .
Please work with your doctors to determine what is wrong before assuming a diagnosis. It could be anything. Getting fatter each day doesn't sound good.
Hi Melaxx, I had a similar thing years ago before being given a solid diagnosis. I went from 9 to 11.5 stone in 4 months. I used to wake up with a huge flabby face and puffy eyes, then gravity had an effect through the day so I had huge feet and ankles by the evening. When it was investigated, I had pleural effusion too so make sure it is monitored. Prednisolone sorted it out for me.
Accumulating that amount of fluid is worrying and is perhaps a sign that your kidneys are not performing as they should. If you have recently stopped taking steroids, it may be that they were keeping some latent kidney issues in check. If the GP doesn't raise this directly - I think you should raise the possibility yourself. Good luck.
