Low platelets, ITP and SLE

I read somewhere that if you have a low platelet count, mine is 38/40 , not to have the Pheizer jab. Does anyone have any knowledge of this.

I am currently not on any medication. Thank you. Stay safe, stay warm.

Something to speak about to the doctor at the vaccine centre. There was a case in the USA of a doctor who developed low platelets after his vaccine which they were unable to sort out. But I don't think it is necessarily to do with the vaccine.Has yours been investigated?

Thanks you for your reply. Might try my GP or consultant for an answer. I know they are not seeing patients yet, but might manage a phone call.I have had this ITP for about 30 years now. Had lots of investigations and treatments. However nothing improves my plateletcount. I have had platelet infusions before an operation and before Dental exctractions, which does stop any excess bleeding.

I have spoken to my haematologist, perfectly ok to have either AstraZenica or Pheizer jab. Thanks for your previous reply.

ITP is a diagnosis of exclusion and we have no clue what causes it still. With that being said, there has been one case of ITP after vaccination here in the states. However, it has been deduced that the vaccine unlikely caused or worsened the patients ITP since it literally can happen for no reason in some folks.

Here in the states, people with a history of GBS or even ITP are still getting the vaccine. I don’t think it should be a problem but make sure you discuss with your GP. Maybe they can get scheduled labs after you have the vaccine to keep track of your platelets should you need an infusion.
