Hello everyone, here’s an indulgent chocolate drink to enjoy on this wet and rainy evening! Following on from last week’s Costa Coffee copy - and in true lockdown style - if you can’t buy it, then make it! So some online shopping resulted in some 70% Green & Black’s, a large organic orange, more squirty cream, and of course, some Terry’s Chocolate Orange!
I grated the zest of half the orange into a pan of local whole farm milk....and everso slowly heated it through to nearly simmering. I let it do this for about 20 mins so that the orange flavour really infused with the milk. I then melted chunks of the Green & Blacks chocky into the milk along with a heaped teaspoon of my absolute favourite organic 100% cocoa powder - I always have a stash of this in the cupboard as it gives any chocky dish a deep rich flavour! I heated it all through to a nice smooth consistency and then poured it into the glasses. I finished it off with some squirty cream, a dusting of Cadbury’s cocoa powder, a few shavings of orange zest and finished it off with some...Terry’s Chocolate Orange mini bites and a big segment from the “Orange” on the side of the glass! My son swigged his down rather swiftly and my daughter poured hers into a flask and disappeared off to the park with the dog to meet a friend. It was rather delicious! I sat and savoured mine whilst watching the rain streaming down the windows and listening to it beat on the flat roof off the conservatory.
Watch this space for next week’s chapter of Cropley’s Cyber Drive-thru Costa Copy Cafe! The After Eight will be on the menu!
Have a nice weekend y’all! 🍫 🍊 ☕️

I am afraid I am a failed vegan. I did try really hard but I struggled to get sufficient protein on a daily basis without eggs and cheese. I drink KoKo milk in my tea and on my cereals but do eat milk chocolate, a little cheese and at least two eggs a week. I hate creamy milk so the Koko is fine for me. I am not eating chocolate, biscuits or crisps until Christmas week as I am unable to exercise currently due to the unstable asthma and I am morbidly obese as it is. I will definitely try this over Christmas though as I love chocolate Orange I might use whipped cream rather than the squirts stuff, maybe with some clementines? Xxx
I try and do a whole plant- based evening meal once a week for the fam for all sorts of reasons and use unsweetened oat milk with porridge and unsweetened coconut milk in fruit smoothies for brekkie to try and keep the dairy and added sugar down a bit. My son is shooting up so fast and he loves eggs and meat, he needs his protein for growth so I find a balance all round so that we all try and maintain a healthy diet - apart from the weekends when the wheels come off and the chocky comes out in my hot drink experiments!! Well you’ve gotta live a little...😈💜!! Sorry to hear that you are unable to exercise at the mo CP, that must be really frustrating for you. Have you looked at any Keto style recipes at all? I do a couple of these each week to keep the carbs//grains/sugar/root veg/ pulses etc to a minimum, again for all round health benefits.
I think clementines will work, pretty sure you can zest them into a hot chocky treat! I hope you are feeling more comfortable with the breathing and are having a restful day 🙏🤗😘😂
I haven’t tried keto because I really do not want to feel shaky and weak m balance is poor enough as it is. I have three days eating only raw food and the rest veggies. Saturday is homemade pizza day with garlic mushrooms, peppers, red onion, pineapple and candied jalapeños which I absolutely love. I made a coffee and walnut cake Friday and got a small slice before Neil devoured the rest. I am looking forward to eating honey roasted hazelnut es, Hotel Chocolate and crisps Christmas week, washed down with bellini’s. Yummy xxx
Yes totally agree - we couldn’t go all out Keto, I just pop in a few high protein low carb meals during the week. Love the sound of your pizza! Candid jalapeños! Must try those! My son has a real knack for making pizza dough and he makes a massive batch which I divide up and freeze for future use. Honey roasted hazelnuts sound divine! I’ve just had a 1kg bag delivered for my Nutella making so I’ll definitely roast some off with some honey. Thanks for the suggestions CP - I’m always wanting to expand my kitchen creativity! Keep ‘em coming! (Off to snaffle the remainder of the chocky orange with my mint tea!) take care 🤗😘🤗
I love the candied jalapeños. I must admit I buy them from the Preservation Society online along with their very lively marmalade which is so sour it is delicious. Enjoy your tea and chocolate. I just roasted some flat mushrooms with garlic and rosemary and I am having a treat gratin dauphinois as I had cream left over from Neil’s strawberry sponge cake which he will eat today. Enjoy your evening xxx
Thanks CP - I’ll take a look at the Preservation Society and get some ordered. I’ve just looked up some recipes to make my own! Once jarred it looks like that they’ll be ready by Christmas. I must say that they do look mouthwatering and will be amazing on pizza and with pulled pork which is a family favourite. I might even put the syrup they are stored in into a Mrs Cropley Coffee! Or even into one of my off-piste ice cream recipes! The list is endless...! Take care 🙏👍😘🤗😘
Another divine looking creation Mrs C.! 😍 Perfect to perk us up after our daily walk - just waiting for a break in the weather which on a day like this might never happen. 😥 So we’ll just have to make one before going so it gives us some energy. 😉 🥰
Thanks for sharing the recipe Horsewhisper. 👍🏻 You’ll have to write a recipe book when you have finished posting all these wonderful creations!😋
Oh thank you Spotty! I’m looking forward to making “The After Eight One” next weekend! (It sounds like a “Friends” episode! 😂) I can’t take all the credit for the recipes as I have nicked the ideas from Costa but use fresh/homemade/organic ingredients where possible and cut back on the sugar. I’ll start thinking about festive hot drinks - eggnog latte springs to mind - and I’ll make the eggnog from scratch with a healthy slug of rum in it for some festive cheer! Hope you are ok after recent appointments and things are ticking along ok. Have a nice Sunday and I hope you get a break in the clouds at some point! 👍🙏🌟😘🤗😘
All good chefs/cooks put their own twist on an existing recipe so you should take the credit for your creations. 😉 Eggnog latte sounds superb, 😋 but I’m looking forward to the ‘After Eight’ one in the meantime. 😘 No, weather is lousy all day so we’ve decided to just relax and rewatch some Spy in the Wild we’d recorded ages ago. It is Sunday after all!😁 Enjoy the rest of your day Horsewhisper. 🤗😘
Good idea Spotty - feet up and stay in - I’ve watched the Grand Prix and now snoozing 😴through some rugby that hubby is watching. Will send the kids out with the dog to pick up some windfall apples to make a crumble for pud after roast lamb later! .😋🍏 😘🤗😘
I have just read your post to my hubby in a Nigella Lawson style!! He loves chocolate n was already dribbling 😋 Then I showed him the picture n I can't repeat what he said!! 😹It's was along the lines of..oh that looks delicious!! 😹
I hope that when u were sipping yours in your conservatory u quietly said to yourself...it's not Terry's..it's mine!!
Am really looking forward to after eight next week!! Thank u soooo much for sharing Mrs C 🤗🌈😽😽xx
😂that’s so funny KK! Glad your hubby can join in on the chocky treats - spread the joy why not! Yes Dawn French did spring to mind when making this and my daughter is a real chocky hound and can sniff the stuff out at 100 paces. So I have to hide any yummy ingredients in the strangest of places - the washing machine at the moment is a safe bet - so it’s definitely MINE as I’m the only person to open the door of that appliance in this house! (I’ve got plenty left so just need to remember it’s in there before I put a white wash on 😂!! ) Have a lovely afternoon too KK! 😋🤗😘🤗
Mmmmm....it was definitely yummy! Looking a bit slummy though in my lockdown leggings and scraped back hair! Good to hear from you Stiff 👋 - Yes some shortbread would have gone perfectly!
I have a nutty creation - some Nutella stirred in some hot chocolate with squirty cream on top is a winner - I make my own Nutella which is dead easy to do - we try and steer clear of palm oil and keep the sugar content down in the naughty treats we make as the steroids mess with my blood sugar terribly. Anyway, all good here thanks after a wet and rainy weekend - you ok? 🍪🍫🌟😋😘🤗😘
Wow sounds good 👍 sounds a good idea to steer clear of palm oil and sugars being on the steroids which mess with you but hey still sounds like a great Nutella and still get to have the treats with your own take on them 👍👍 yes terrible weather this weekend I have 4 unhappy chooks and an unhappy dog , they like me I’m sure are fed up with the rain 😂 ok thanks bit of a rough time health wise , but keeping going that’s the main thing 👍 been watching sugar rush on Netflix, some great cake creations 👍😘🤗xx
