That photo! Brilliant! 😂

My skin hates the heat. Back to very itchy, angry rashes. Elecon does very little. Mostly legs, but I have already broken skin from scratching *sigh*. A lot more tired, too, but meh.

Hope you're doing ok, to Misty 😊

Hi Ceri

Good to hear from you.

I think the majority of us are not fans of the heat or UV.

I noticed you said you itch.

I have had this problem in the past. I’ve had eczema etc since birth. But I have really very bad varicose veins on my legs and I have experienced a nasty form of eczema over these. Even moisturising it gets bad. So a few years ago now, my GP suggested an antihistamine to stop me itching it. I think if you get sores that don’t heal and you scratch them they can get infected but also with my poor circulation you can get ulcers. So, I now take 2 antihistamines a day, different types. I suffer from hey fever (grass pollen, not tree pollen) and am allergic to pet dander and house dust.

So between the two antihistamines we are trying to treat allergies and itchy rashes.

A pharmacist might be able to help and antihistamines are quite cheap in the supermarkets etc these days.

I’ve also struggled to find a moisturiser that helps. E45 makes me worse. I’ve no idea why and doctors look at me like I’m mad. Aveeno is the only thing that works for me. It can be expensive when not on offer but others here have told me some GPs will prescribe it. It can take a while to find something that works for you. I have to moisturise every day or the itching starts on my legs.

I hope some of that helps.

Best wishes

Wendy

I itch like mad too Wendy. I use Diprobase from my neck to my feet twice daily and take two antihistamines which also help me sleep xxx

Wendy39 profile image
Wendy39 in reply to CecilyParsley

Do you buy the Diprobase? Or is it on prescription? I have noticed that a few things have been taken off my repeat prescription - my sun sense ego SPF50+ sun cream and my eye drops??? x

CecilyParsley profile image
CecilyParsley in reply to Wendy39

I get it on prescription Wendy. They changed my eye drops to some that just were useless so I asked my GP if I could return to the Hyloforte that the Opthamologist prescribed, she said no problem which is great. I noticed they have Aveeno wash in TK Maxx online xxx

Great. I’ll have a look. x

Sorry your suffering so much ceri but liked the pic!. I'm in a lot of pain thanks but soldiering on!. Hope your skin settles when it turns cooler at end of the week. Phew!. Keep safe and well. Xx😊

I'm roasting. It's to hot to do anything!

I used to go punting there with a G&T and picnic hamper full of goodies. So glad I did it then because there is no way I could do it now.

How's the pericarditis? I've developed it a bit now after a very long episode of printzmetal angina last Saturday.

Been thinking of you x

misty14 profile image
misty14 in reply to happytulip

Hi ht, sorry you get printzmetal angina as well as pericarditis!. That's rough to have both. Do hope your pericarditis doesn't develop too much before you speak to your Rheumy team!. Will keep fingers crossed for you.

Mine has really settled now thanks for asking!. I'm in a colitis flare now and waiting for an urgent tel:appt with the Gadtro's!. There's always something isn't there?. What did you make of the recent new guidelines?. Shielding ends 31st July!.

Thinking of you ht , do take care. Xx

happytulip profile image
happytulip in reply to misty14

Thanks Misty, fortunately bits not full on pericarditis, more if that pre-pericarditis scratchy feeling that can then trigger an attack.

So sorry to hear about your colitis. It never rains but it pours!

I'm looking forward to a bit more freedom although I am a bit nervous about getting out and about. Not because big anxiety but because I'm a bit wobbly on my feet and need to strengthen my legs and build up my stamina. I can't drive at the moment because I need to have epilepsy ruled out and if I walk somewhere, I need to make sure I have the energy to get back!

misty14 profile image
misty14 in reply to happytulip

Oh no ht , do hope you don't have epilepsy!. You've developed so many serious things but maybe it's the CTD mimicking it as that can happen!. Are you seeing a neuro?. I'm really missing driving too for independence and helping with walking so know what you mean about walking and getting back. I so need this foot op I'm waiting for as can't really be active still!. No sign of hospital getting back to more normal things yet!. Seems like it will never happen!.

Really hope you get good news ht and your Rheumy appt goes ahead and is helpful. Thinking of you. Xx

P.s, just got my Gadtro phone appt booked for a fortnight. X

Thank you.

I need to have an MRI and EEG. I know exactly what my trigger is, it's UV lighting so at least I can avoid the light.

I just have to wait until it's safe to go to hospital for the tests.

CecilyParsley profile image
CecilyParsley in reply to happytulip

I hope you get it sorted. I really think my “ funny turns” are linked to UV light too as I haven’t had a really bad episode since lockdown just a few giddy moments with auras. My Neurology appointment was postponed too. It is really interesting that so many of us get similar issues is t it? Xxx

Hope you don't have to wait too long ht. Horrid having it hanging over!. Feel better soon. Xx

Great photo! That cow knows how to cool down.

I’m hiding inside. Even have rash vest on when inside these days. The sun is so bright. It really gets to me. I won’t try to do too much today.

Hope you’re relaxing.

Love the photo and the story misty, cows know how to keep cool , they also give an indication to the weather, if its bad weather they crowd in the corner of a field, if its sunny they go to the centre , or stand in a river 🤣🤣

misty14 in reply to weathervane

i just knew that when cows sit down its going to rain weathervane!. They are a useful barometer to the weather. Hope your coping in this heat. Xx

We dont have the heat wave you have , its a pleasant heat . I hope you are coping alright, maybe sitting on the edge of the bath with your feet in cold water would be soothing, i had to do that once at a wedding - high shoes and hot weather 🤣

misty14 in reply to weathervane

We've got a foot soak weathervane that is lovely so we may just do it this afternoon as its baking again!. Glad your a lot cooler as its too much!. We've just had our haircut as our hairdresser was willing to come to us before she goes back to the salon !. It's pamper day today and such a boost!. Hope your all ok. Xx

weathervane in reply to misty14

I spoke too soon misty its about 25 * here today , but all change tomorrow. I trimmed the my hair again this morning putting in a colour tomorrow, I really need professional help🤣.

Hope you you’re enjoying the pampering, sooooo jealous xxx

misty14 profile image
misty14 in reply to weathervane

Good luck for doing your colouring weathervane. Sorry it's been hotter for you today. Having our haircut has been such a boost but it was hotter here than yesterday so we didn't do foot pampering!. Coukdn't do anything else. It's not long and salon's open. Our hairdresser said hers was opening on a Sunday as extra because they're so booked up and have to leave extra time between clients for the cleaning now !. Sooooo different!. We wouldn't have had her if she was back at the salon, too scary!. Are you frightened of going?. Take care Xx

weathervane profile image
weathervane in reply to misty14

I am anxious about going back to hairdressers, I haven’t booked an appointment yet because of that .

It could be September before i get one with the way he gets booked up so I should try and sort one out . He might have to use hedge cutters by then 🤣🤣

misty14 profile image
misty14 in reply to weathervane

Hope weathervane your hair colouring has gone well. You could look at getting a mobile hairdresser like we have, maybe thru recommendation? Would be less scary and can take the necessary precautions, specially if you can't get an appt. There have been reports of hairdressers being booked up for 6 months now!. hope you have a safe and happy weekend. Xx

weathervane profile image
weathervane in reply to misty14

I think the colour has gone ok misty👩‍🦰!! You will never believe it though, my hairdressers phoned this afternoon and I booked an appointment for start of August, l don’t mind waiting, he’ll probably tell me off for cutting and colouring myself. He was telling me all the precautions he’s taking, PPE , 2 metres spacing and sanitising , the place is always spotless anyway 😀.

Have a good weekend, expecting thunder and lightning here 🌩 xxx

misty14 in reply to weathervane

That's fantastic news weathervane you've got a hair appt!. It's good they're taking all the precautions. Must be a really good salon!. Something to look forward to!. My hairdresser had the face shield when she came. Well done with the colouring!. Hairdresser's will have to sort out a lot of people's problems where they've had a go themselves!. They've got to expect it!. It's dropped ten degrees in temp thankfully!. Keep dry and safe this weekend. Xx
