Heat and sun intolerance???

I have never managed to tolerate the sun and always results in a flare. But just lately if I get hot, and i'm only talking about 20 degrees here, within minutes I feel like I am going to pass out or throw up.

Its getting ridiculous. does anyone else get like this and how can I overcome it?

I'm so interested in this question, too!!!

I am horrible in the heat... my biggest complaints are tired (extreme), feel like crap (pardon the slang)... as in my eyes feel awful (I figure it's some kidney connection b/c when I was really sick with kidney involvement my eyes had a weird reaction.. felt like the lids swell), and I feel extremely bloated and uncomfortable.

I just feel awful in the heat. I find that the less I eat the better I feel. Sorry, no clue how to overcome it! I try to stay in air conditioning (which is impossible since most of our schools don't have air).

Sun and heat make me feel light headed and sick. Also bright lights. I love cloudy days and low watt frosted bulbs and then I feel just fine. My husband told me I was the only Indian he ever knew that was allergic to the sun....but am l ?...l think I am.

I'm not good in the heat either, it makes me feel light headed and nauseous .. and exhausted. I'm hoping the steroids (I started today) will help reduce inflammation and therefore help me cope better with heat and sunlight... It 's good to dream!

Weather can be a difficult thing to manage through. Whether steamy hot or chilly cold both can be triggers.

You know heat is a trigger for you. Avoid the mid day strong heat as much as possible and cover up when in the sun. Use an umbrella if necessary.

Always consult with your doctor/s when new symptoms or more severe symptoms occur. Rx adjustments might be helpful to you.

Be certain to not be dehydrated (as this makes for poor heat tolerance) and monitor your BP. If BP is low, consult with your doctor/s.

Hi, Yes like you, I also feel nauseous in the heat. I haven't found a solution to this yes...but I am learning to limit my time in the sun and use protection more, ie:hats/brollys etc. Sometimes just having a shower can also make me feel tired and I know now to have a cooler shower as this helps. I have read Nouska's advice above which seems sound. M.

Hi, l too cannot tollerate the sun and heat at all, it eats away at my skin even if the sun catches me for a few minutes, and it makes me feel so ill, but l have bought lined umbrella's from Umbrella Heaven its a company on line, and they make umbrellas that are uvs safe fully line in silver material which does not let the sun through, they are marvellous, I have umbrellas that clip onto chairs, and handbag size auto umbrella and it has given me my freedom to be able to go out. I still use factor 50 sun cream, and l do keep covered up, but the protection i get with these umbrellas allows me to go out in without having to worry. They even do large garden umbrellas to use in the garden , Hope this helps. x x

I have become so housebound from feeling exactly the same way. The sun feels like it is eating my skin, heat makes me shaky and nauseous. I feel like people think I am crazy it is so hard to explain why you never feel well. I am so glad I am not the only person that feels this way.

I am also the same. I cannot tolerate either the sun or heat. I flare very quickly, cheeks start to go red and then I feel totally drained out. i sit out on dull days and hibernate when the sun is out. I noticed recently when i was exposed to a little sun(not with intention) even with factor 50 on my joints all started hurting too. Before lupus I loved the sun and was fine.x

I suffer in heat and sun, I am always hot even in winter so I dread the summer. It makes me have bad migraine headaches and generally feel bad and extremely tired. No cures I'm afraid just pace yourself and avoid the sun as much as possible.

I also suffer in the heat - and I live in a VERY hot, sunny place ("&%!).

I am constantly tired, sore, lightheaded, experience shortness of breath and short term memory loss. Some times, it takes hours to cool down even in airconditioned rooms. Obviously my body can't regulate its temperature and I'm constantly dehydrated.

Isotonic drinks help a lot and I try to eat more raw fresh fruit and veg than cooked meals and also avoid dairy products (being a vegetarian makes things easier, yet I can never argue against the "diet" imposed by my PMS - and suffer the after-effects).

Also, no amount of sunscreen can block the rashes.

I've never liked the sun, anyway...

xx

I don't know how you cope!!!

over the last few weeks i feel like i have turned into a recluse. I have had a flare that has lasted nearly 6 weeks from being out in the sun and it's really getting me down now.

i never thought of isotonic drinks for myself - i give them to my son all the time as he is very sporty, so will def give them a try.

Keep smiling and roll on the autumn :)

Thank you all for this post. I'm so glad to read these supportive comments and know that I'm not crazy. The sun makes me nauseas and weak and if I get to cold the Raynauds syndrome kicks in. My mum said I have so many accommodations. It just takes real effort for me to be comfortable and I realize that's ok. 💜
