I have had a blinding headache for two weeks, my sleep is not too good, because I sleep and still wake up with a banging head.
Called my Gp, and was spoken to my the pharmacist. He said I should get over the counter ibuprofen. I told him I can't, am on gabapentin, amytriptyln, oromorph, zomorph, paracetamol, aspirin. I have a fairly stable kidneys so I can't take ibuprofen.
I told him that one thing I noticed calmed the headache was a piece of banana for a couple of hours. Then when it got worse in the afternoon, I noticed that when I had a fruit bar, it calmed it down abit. My blood pressure is OK, last I checked it was diastolic 117 and 84 systolic a pulse of 77.
My worries are, am I have low blood sugar. I have been at home since the start of this lock down and I have added weight. The pharmacist booked me in for bloods in 2 weeks. How do I cope till then.
Regards

I can no longer take excederine headache, it is caffeine and apirin nor can I use advil but have found much to my surprise because in my younger days Tylenol did nothing for my migraines, that it does work for my post stroke headaches. I sometimes find caffeine with the Tylenol helps more than just the Tylenol alone.
I also find hypnosis videos help me get through the pain and one with gentle neck stretches in particular helps me prevent new headaches.
It might be too new age and it might be a placebo effect for me but I really think it helps me. Here is one I have used daily for a year and it seems to have improved my pain. There are plenty of others if you Google meditation for migraines. Hope you feel better soon.
I emailed my consultant and sent one of his Dr's to see me today. I normally have a bulimab infusion every 4 weeks. I went in to day and the have taken a blood sample to check if I also have diabetes. I have put on a lot of weight too. Am exerciseing but it seems I gain more weight when I exercise..
The consultant suggested I start taking 75mg of amytriptyln.
Would Migraleve help? You can get it over the counter at the pharmacy, or you could at least talk to the pharmacist about your current medications, and see what they suggest?
What about when you take drinks with electrolytes does that help like when you eat banana? I would usually say it's not normal to have consistent headache and to do to get checked but if you feel better with banana maybe you are simply missing some electrolytes?
I have had a blood test on Friday, but what you said makes alot of sense. It really calms the pain quicker than any pain killer. The headache has been lighter this past few days but am just exhausted. My Dr suggested I take my amytriptyln 75mg every night.. Am not getting enough sleep at night, I have an 8 year old to keep out of trouble.
I said I will have a lay in today midday and he said he needed the outdoor pool to be set up since we had a tap fitted outside. So we tried to do it, he got into the pool less than 30mins later she was shaking, dried him, made him hot chocolate, hot food, put him in front of heater, had my dinner and it was time for my prayer meeting! So no sleep.!
One possibility to consider is that headache and nausea on waking (usually accompanied by extreme fatigue) can be a sign of adrenal insufficiency/low cortisol. If you are on long term steroids, it may be that your adrenals are being suppressed and not producing enough cortisol.
You can check this out with your doctor and/or do a home test eg from Medichecks x
