Can this be another symptom related to lupus?

Hi all, I posted some photos of pink prick rash on my feet and legs yesterday. This morning I now also have swollen eye lids. It’s all very frightening. Thanks.

You are in a hard position since you are not well and have to wait a long time to be evaluated by a rheumatologist. I think it is important to be in touch with your GP with any new symptom like your eyelid swelling. If your doctor told you that you might have lupus, they will want to know how you are. Some symptoms can be diagnosed and treated by your GP if they highly suspect lupus. The fact that we are in a pandemic should not interfere with your getting care.

It looks like it could possibly be Blepharitis. ( can happen in an auto immune flare and can also go along with Sjogrins, lupus, )

Gentle warm wet compresses help.

I do get this also. Have a look on line for daily maintenance. ( gentle eye lid scrub to keel roots of eyelashes debris free, )

I use very clean white wash cloth ( that I can bleach with other white bath towels when I launder to keep sanitized) with hot steamy water and a drop baby shampoo.

This is not a stereotypical lupus symptom, and could be any number of things so please do not panic. I would put some heat compresses or a cool cloth on them for 20 minutes to see if that helps. Over the counter eye drops might also help if your eye feels dry or itchy.

Common reasons for this could be a sty, a blocked tear duct or a mild infection. These things can often happen if you're a bit run down or tired. If it becomes hot, red and pain then definitely seek medical advice from your GP. Otherwise I would keep a note of any new unusual symptoms for once referrals are allowed again. Sadly we don't yet know when that will be.

Hopefully this will go down on it's own. In the meantime look after yourself and try to get some rest. This is a stressful time for everyone but we will get through it.

All the best x

Hi Gagbuni, I’m sorry all this is happening to you so fast. You probably should contact your physician because puffy eyes can mean problems with kidneys, not always but it can be a symptom. As others have said it also can go along with the lupus or a Sjogren’s syndrome flare. You should probably have testing to find out though. The best of luck to you. XNan
