Agree with sticky blood mentor. This sounds very odd and unhelpful’ access to work’ can help with equipment costs for firms. Not all union reps are clued up on SLE do ensure he/she understands what you want and why. Do you have lupus Uk booklets on employment..they are very helpful and if you have an occupational health service (who presumably helped set up this idea) alert them to these difficulties. If you can obtain some private vocational rehab or occ health advice as a one off puts you in strong position
In the case of my reasonable adjustments I had my own laptop at home. There was no question that this was a necessary adjustment but I did work somewhere where it was common for many to have laptops to carry around. No excuses for long train journeys and not keeping in touch that way, as there was pre laptop / blackberry days!
If I had to travel for meetings I also had taxis to the train and meeting place. That meant some carrying.
In short, if your condition makes the laptop difficult for you, then to have your own would, in my opinion, be a reasonable adjustment under the DDA. A trade union rep should be able to help you with this.
I now work from home and have to use my own laptop. I don't know who you work for but some companies or government agencies require you to use their equipment for security reasons. It seems terribly unfair that you have to share a laptop (is this with other home workers?) and the laptop cannot be kept at your home.
Again, I'm in agreement with 'Sticky Blood Mentor' - like many others I work for a small company with no access to OT, HR or anything like this and I just have to push for everything I need myself. Certainly there is no Union! I really hope this gets sorted, you should not have to make your illness worse. If you have access to unions, OT's etc please use them, if not do what I do and push like mad for yourself!
Same situation that it's a small company. I'm always pushing like crazy for everything. It makes me feel like such a hassle but it's what I need after all.
