Hydroxychlorquine alternative

Hi all, has anyone had to come off Hydroxychlorquine and if so what alternative was offered? I’ve got Sjögren’s, Lupus and RA with lung disease and on Hydroxychlorquine and Mycophenolate plus steroids but have been told by Rheumy nurse to stop Hydroxy due to macular degeneration disease started in my right eye and waiting to see consultant to decide alternative. Hi Barbs, I had to come off hydroxychloroquine (Quinoric) shortly after starting it due to an allergic reaction.

Rheumatologist offered Mepacrine as an alternative and I've been taking it for 4 years with no problems x

Hi. Barbs

I have exactly the same complaints as you and have been on mycofenolate and methotrexate. I still take 5mg steroid daily and have also moved to a biological drug called rituximab . This biological drug is only considered after u try mychofenolate and methotrexate and they are not suitable. I have been on it for 2 years and have found it quite successful. Try it and see how u go.x
