Not sure about Planquil but I've been on Quinoric since diagnosis and gotten on fine with it. I think it caused minor tummy upset when I started but not now. Just read the booklet that comes with and if you experience any bad side effects talk to the drs
When Placquenil disappeared I moved on to Zentiva Hydroxychloroquine.I think it was recommended here at the time. I have been absolutely fine with it.
Hi Kevin its now called named Hydroxychloroquine and is made by Zentiva where planquinel was Sanofi its the same chain its just the sister company even in the same office. Its is widely available by is more expensive than the Quinoric so you may find the pharmacies if no brand is stated may give out Quinoric. I can't take Quinoric as I'm allergic to one of the fillers, lots of people get on fine with it. Hope all is well
I’ve been on hydroxychloroquine for 4 years and in the UK I’ve only been on the quinoric brand. Only thing with me is instead of 200mg a day I take 400mg. Hope you don’t have any side effects xx
I take Zentiva. Ditto to the above on Plaquinel. It is no longer available. Zentiva replaces it. Pharmacies can be difficult about it, wanting to give you Quinoric, so you have to specify and double check which one they've given you before leaving the pharmacy, otherwise they can't take it back. But saying that, plenty have no trouble with Quinoric at all.
On the Zentiva, I had a strange feeling that there was a log in my belly for about 5 days. Then it disappeared. No problems whatsoever after that.
Good luck!
Just received the following from our Lupus nurse:
''there is good evidence for Hydroxychloroquine in SLE, most people tolerate it well, the coating on Quinoric generic tablet has been reported to cause a laxative effect with some patients, Zentiva is the brand you want patients to be prescribed as it is tolerated better. The way to get around it is to prescribe Hydroxychloroquine sulphate.''
Hi Kevin - diagnosed 2 years ago I was put on Zentiva with only good effect. Quinoric has a laxative effect although effective for my condition! My surgery for some reason (ha ha) will only prescribe Quinoric. I am now under a Consultant who will, after tests, prescribe me Zentiva. All NHS - so go figure - someone is making money from the switch to Quinoric.
When I was on hydroxy chemist tried to give me 2 different brands. I refused to change brands as was worried it wouldn’t have a good affect on me .
Stopped the meds few months later as it didn’t benefit me in anyway ! 😑
Hi Kevin, sorry that I haven't responded to this post yet. I'm just catching up on some things. We have a post about this on our website - lupusuk.org.uk/hydroxychlor...
