Can methotrexate injections cause low lymphocyte, eosinophil and mean cell haemoglobin count?

been feeling rubbish, just had blood test results which doctor wants to speak to me about but can’t get an appointment until October. Got results printed out. Could these low results be methotrexate? ESR is higher but only 16. ???

Yes MTX can cause problems with your blood count but then so can autoimmune diseases.

I don’t know about your ESR - I guess it depends what your normal is. For me I’d be hopping around with an ESR so low but mine is always extremely high yer the rest of my bloods are usually normal. I often had high liver function tests when on Methotrexate injections.

October seems a bit of a wait really but I guess if it was urgent they would want to see you more urgently?

Thank you for your reply. I have SLE and Sjögrens . My bloods are normally ok and that’s why I was saying my ESR is higher than it should be but only just which is why I was wondering why my other bloods are showing something, I am on 20mg methotrexate injection so maybe it’s that?? I will leave the hopping around to you because I certainly don’t feel like I could do that at the moment.

Ha ha no hopping around for me these days either but then I’m presently untreated! Have you a Rheumatology nurse or even a rheumy you could contact perhaps to ask if you should be on a lower dose of MTX? It’s hard to know isn’t it - I only ever got up to 17.5 because my liver and the nausea both defeated me after a few years. You maybe do need a lower dose as the injections are significantly more efficient than the pills.

That's what MTX does lower your immune system and also folate which is needed to make hemoglobin.
