Morning everyone, I lost my sense of smell during a cold. A few weeks later it came back. A second cold had the same happen again. At the third cold it never came back.
It's been more than a year since I have been able to smell anything. It does have pros and cons of course. I really miss this sense and it's pleasures, food, flowers, sea air, fresh laundry, lovely perfumes, my freshly bathed grandsons. A scented bath was one of my favourites.
On the pro side, I don't smell nappies, petrol, manure/ farmyard, coconuts( I'm not missing that!! ) I have a humidifier to help with dryness , has anyone else had this and how do you help it.? Should I go to GP and ask her? I keep hoping it will come back without having to take up appt time.

I would be asking the GP - there are some illnesses that cause it and you really ought to be checked out just in case.
Yes I have this too plus inability to taste properly - “blunt instrument taste buds” as a gastro said. In my case I think it’s dryness in my nasal cavities causing these sensory changes. Sometimes I smell things incredibly intensely however - just randomly - same with hearing but never with taste. I have Sjögren’s.
Hi twitchy, Yes, I've also got Sjogrens. I have a humidifier but not noticing much difference. It's so frustrating . Most food tastes pretty bland or just plain weird. What you see on your plate and expect to taste and smell are poles apart from the current situation. 😞Xx
