In my last post I mentioned how thrilled I was to not make it through a full day and evening of activities + travel. And a few weeks back things were going well. Then I crashed, in bed from the 15-20th and again on 22nd. Mostly fatigue and joint pain. My butterfly decided Xmas was when it would come out to play, but the holidays are stressful and I had maxed out, so wasn’t too surprised.
Then today I took a look at my knee as it was burning and itching all night. I still have to compression wrap it so that’s stopped me from scratching at it.
In this case it’s the incision from the knee surgery a couple months back. One of the two incisions has been slow to heal but around their same time as my fatigue set in it started to look too red and I saw a few, tiny bumps. I assumed it was inflamed but would settle down.
Whoops! Guess not. Ugghh. I think it’s infected. How? No clue. I’m very good at wound care and as you’ll see the left (lateral) incision is fine. The only thing I can think of is that the Surgical Assistant didn’t wear gloves when he removed my stitches and he did the infected one second. Possible bacteria transfer. I’m using proper disinfectant at home but it grows more and more.
Last night I must have gotten in a fight with it because I found my leg bare and my bandage, compression wrap and ice wrap tangled in the blanket. NO CLUE I did that. Maybe an infected knee is a cure for insomnia 😂😂😂 Sorry, need to laugh as you all understand what it’s like to think you’re doing better than something out of nowhere lands you in the ER. It’s peak flu season here so the LAST place I want to be is in the hospital.
Pray it’s not cellulitis 🙏. My body can’t have antibiotics right now since the C. Diff is not confirmed as gone for good. I also can’t take any more poking, surgery or going under.
Boo. Bad Xmas present.

If you can get any, maybe via the internet, you could try colloidal silver applied topically. It has antibacterial qualities and may help if you soak some gauze and strap it on. (If it's infection based).
Ah, bugger. There's always something, isn't there? It does look unhappy, but not raging yet, is it? Crossing fingers that it decides to go away by itself x
Worried about you katidid...infection of any kind is such a fatal menace for us...you’re ultra experienced and know how to judge this one right...counting on you to know when you gotta see a medic..take care
Anyone ever heard of spontaneous subcutaneous lupus in SLE people as an acute reaction to something like a surgical cut or other insult to the body? Of course I’m goggling the shape and it looks like a baby subcu. It’s probably a leap and still want to check it with docs as it’s hurting quite a bit now.
Please do check it with docs asap & let us know what they say...eg even my lupus-related small vessel vasculitis rashes tend to get mixed bacterial & fungal infections...so i have to treat them with combined topicals: steroids + antibiotics + fungicides 🍀🍀🍀🍀
Got checked. Fungal infection, possible bacteria too but I asked that they take a sample and get it analyzed before we do antibiotics. I explained that I just spent the last 4 months fighting the C. Diff and that my immune status was compromised. She was wonderfully friendly and bright - understood all my concerns. So we’re doing topical and oral steriods for now and I’ll know in 2 days about the bacterium. Will take awhile to clear up, but it didn’t get in my blood so I call this a win(ish!). Well done katidid..u got onto it pronto!! With these things it's always best to get any changes checked out...or else they can deteriorate very quickly indeed. Hope the steroids do the trick and that the other test comes back ok xx
