£10 Christmas Bonus

I received a letter from DWP telling me I shall have a £10 bonus because of my PIP. I’ve been planning all year on what to spend it on.

I vaguely remember the bonus being introduced for pensioners and looked it up. 1972. Enough then to buy a good Christmas Dinner and have money left over. The amount hasn’t changed since then. It would be worth about £100 now if it had kept up with inflation.

I’m not ungrateful, it’s just another thing that probably costs more to administer than it’s worth.

What are you going to fritter yours on? ❄️

It'll still pay for my xmas dinner (as in, what we eat on the 25th): pizza and 1/4litre wine... ;-)

Its winegums for me too. £10 worth should guarantee a pretty wild New Year's Eve.

But I haven't had any such notification. I hope they are not only giving the bonus to the boys and girls on their "nice" list.x

Goody. I’ll swap you my blacks for your greens x

How can you give the red & black ones away they are the best. Xxxxx

If I remember rightly I get the same being a carer. Was only saying this to my Mum and Husband yesterday that I thought I’d take myself to the ritz and buy a bottle of their most expensive champagne 😂 but in alll seriousness, it’s not a lot, but as my Mum would say, it’s better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick! I’m sure it will go towards something that will go to use, even if something nice for the animals to have at Christmas!

I use the same expression as your mum! You’re right, we’ll all be able to get something with £10 “off” 🤗

If you want to know what to do with your £10 and it is surplus to your requirements, I suggest buying £10 worth of groceries and taking it your local food bank. That way your £10 will make one helluva difference to some families this Christmas

I haven't had notification yet, but I shall probably do the food bank thing as I don't really celebrate Christmas, just eat turkey on the day (and for the following couple of weeks with leftovers then the obligatory turkey stew 🤭👍)

I'm gonna use mine to renew my membership of lupus UK..works out well. Thank u DWP!!
