When the Dr says you have another condition

Hello all

So i had AVN and 2 years ago i had a coredecompression surgery on both knees and ankle. I have been using my stick even before the surgery . I was hoping to stop using the stick but when i flare up , i have no choice but use my stick.

But since December i have started useing the stick less. I feel liberated but i limp abit after a walk. I keep the stick close to me incase i start struggling ( they are foldable ). I had an appointment to see my orthopaedic surgeon ( after the admin totally forgot to book me an appointment). I had to call them myself and complain be4 they gave me an appointment.

On the day of my appointment my surgeon sent me on an xray for my joints. He told me that my AVN seemed not to be progressing. I told him that the knees still hurt and can give way at anytime. When i stand for a long time my knee feels so spongy that i practically have to drag it along . He then said he felt everything was good but if i had concerns that he will send me for an MRI.

Yesterday was my appointment with the surgeon to discuss the result from my MRI. (I felt that he might just say everything is fine that the pain was just my Lupus). When he walked into the room and he said "Your AVN is looking good but the MRI showed u have another condition in ur right knee ". I burst out in laughter😂 and looked at him and he laughed too. He said the catilage in my knee is damaged ( like and ulcer in the bone)and that i will need a key hole surgery in other to drill holes to allow blood flow and see it could be repaired. The he said i need to decide there in the office. Because his worried if its not treated it could lead to Osteoarthritis. He said even after the surgery i might still develop osteoarthritis.

The funny bit is that i dnt know exactly what he called the condition. I am waiting for his letter to my gp so that i will know the name. I asked my surgeon that i needed to check my left knee too and do both together. But he said we can only do one knee at a time.

I am here to share with u, am glad its been seen on time b4 it gets worse. My son turns 6 2mro and am looking forward to haveing a guilt free cake. Take care all and God bless.

Avasculernecrosis. Have had that for 40 years. Did have a core decompression. I do not heal well. Took me 6 mths. to get through that. Had to use wheelchair, and crutches. It did help for a while. I qualify for knee replacement, but am not a good candidate. Make sure to ask what the risk is for you, if you get to that point.. I get lots of infections. Have had menningitis 2 times. Good luck and God Bless You. Certain exercises that exercise the muscles above the knee really help . Take care of yourself.

I had the Avascular neucrosis 2 years ago and had the core decomposition. Apparently somthing else destroyed my catilage. I go to the gym snd and i use the treadmill for 30mins. I try not to cycle so that i dont stress the knee any further. I swim once in awhile but i am struggling with getting dressed, getting my fingers wet because of my raynards. Thank for ur reply and God bless.
