Dry hands

Recently my hands have been so dry and tried different cream but nothing seems to help. What can I do to make my hands better? Is it down to lupus? My eyes are very dry too

Hi Tulipano

Have you tried Aveeno Daily moisturising hand cream? I was advised by the Dr to use this and even the dermatologist I saw about my skin. I appreciate that not all creams suit everyone, especially where lupus skin is concerned.

I use their general moisturizing skin cream for all over use. Just a suggestion.

Have you been to the optician about your dry eyes? My optician provided me with Hycosan Eye drops (no nasty preservatives) However, that said, again, may not always be for everyone.

I hope this helps?

Have you had any blood tests for the Sjogrens. Mine was when I saw my rheumatologist I was saying my eyes constantly hurt and my whole body is dry. He said oh well what do you expect when you have Sjogrens.

I don't know if my Dr tested me for sjogren. What blood test do I need? My eyes are really sore and sometimes it burns. Xx

Also try flavored gelatin and drink lots of water, you might also try rubbing cuticle/almond oil into your hands before applying lotions or creams, the molecules in almond oil are smaller and so absorb into your skin easier, the lotions and creams really only help retain moisture rather than putting moisture into your hands. If you work with money or paper a lot you will also dry out your hands quickly. don't forget to sip your water all day.

My skin is getting very dry to, lots of good suggestion given, adding that I have SCLE & sjogren... so trying a combination of oils almond/apricot, etc & finally tonight, straight coconut after my shower, will see if this helps...lots written about it.... ML

My hands are always dry and even worse in the cold. I’ve tried every cream going and really you just have to find which one suits you. At the moment I’m using Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream overnight which is expensive but it does seem to help. Also wear gloves outside at all times when it’s cold - and in Scotland that can include the summer months! Use rubber gloves when doing housework and reapply hand cream umpteen times a day. Hope you find something that works for you.

Hi sweetie I use hemp cream from Holland and Barrett. I had very dry legs for years and use so many different creams and things and absolutely nothing worked for me. One day I was in Holland and Barrett and the girl told me about the hemp cream. So I got it and used it on my legs well I couldn’t believe the difference in my skin it worked fantastically for me. So I went and got the hand cream as well and it’s exactly the same worked really well and I don’t have dry legs or hands anymore. Maybe try a small tube it’s not expensive. Love and hugs to you sweetie. 🤗🤗🤗🌹🌹🌹xxx

My optician recomended eye drops for dry eyes and even though I didn't feel as if it was making much of a difference she says they look much healthier. As for your hands I use Vaseline, the jelly not the cream. After every single time you wash your hands a little will make a big difference.

I have SLE & sjogren and need eye drops, which my optician prescribed. Makes a difference.

The only emolient via GP that works for me is epaderm. If you've not tried it, it does come in a small container - otherwise huge tub of the stuff.

I too sometimes use elizabeth arden 8 hour cream/ointment - very sticky. you can find some good offers if you keep searching - or know someone who is flying - often cheap on plane or duty free. The hand cream that is sometimes comes with in offers is very good too.

I get very dry hands too and haven’t found anything to help until I was recommended Lush ‘Helping Hands’ cream. It’s helped so much and would recommend it! It has no nasties in it so it’s good for people with sensitive skin and allergies. I hope this helps! X
