Sick after going to dentist.

I've been sick for 1 1/2 months now. I had 5 teeth drilled and refilled and now I have flu like symptoms. Is it the toxins from old metal released into my blood stream? I'm always nauseous. Any ideas?

Could it be a fare caused by the combination of the dentists lights and the trauma of the procedure. Both have bought me out in a flare before. Hope you feel better soon.

Yep, pretty sure it's this. It's an invasive procedure and our bodies have a tendency to go into overdrive when any stress is put on our systems, and that certainly includes dentists. I'm terribly naughty - I can't afford a private dentist anymore and the three NHS dentists I tried to go to couldn't cope at all with the fact their scaling/invasive cleaning would make my teeth worse. After feeling horrible for months...I stopped going to dentists at all. It's not something I'd recommend, but it is definitely proof positive even something like dentistry can cause a flare.

I hope it eases up, and I would make your dentist aware you've had a flare. Hopefully you can find a solution so you don't feel so ill afterwards.

There is a lot of guff talked about "toxins" from fillings - mainly by people who stand to gain a lot of money from replacing them.

I think happytulip is probably right.

I had a massive flare following a visit to the dentist too - it brought me out with the full lupus symptoms that I'd had when I was first ill back in my teens - extreme joint pain and swelling, rash over my body and fever. I was told by the rheumy then that it was a 'reactive arthritis' flare. Whatever it was I never went back to that dentist! I have since been seeing a lovely dentist who treats me much more conservatively - the 'problem' dentist was very harsh with her prodding and cleaning etc which clearly can't be good for us. I hope it all settles down for you soon. If you are worried can you get an appointment with your rheumy?

This happens to me every time. I suspect it is a combination of toxins, trauma and chemicals that affects me and the flu like symptoms are the body trying to rid itself.
