Did they give a figure? Or was it just the space to enter a figure/it had zero?

thinkkidneys.nhs.uk/wp-cont...

Some years ago a study was done using all blood tests sent for creatinine measurement and an algorithm developed which gave a figure called e-GFR which was then to be included with the blood tests. The GFR is the glomerular filtration rate - the amount of urine cleared of creatinine through the kidneys. Normally it is measured by taking a 24 hour urine collection and measuring the blood creatinine level during that 24 hours (it should remain steady so it doesn't matter when). The e-GFR is obviously much easier to implement (24 hour urine collections are a pain and fraught with problems). However, it too is not perfect, there are factors that affect the blood creatinine level - high protein diet shortly before the blood sample is taken, level of hydration and so on.

Anyway - it was to be a research tool to assess the level of kidney problems in the general population originally and not used routinely but someone decided it should be quoted on all blood test reports where it had been done. As a result this warning pops up - and inexperienced doctors and not a few practice nurses panic and tell the patient they have kidney failure. And most of the time, they don't. The renal consultant were most unhappy about it being chucked out into the general population but they were overruled.

So if you look at page 4 you will see the details.

No it just says what I stated no value next to it. It's not showed up before yet I have the same blood tests every 3 months

The lab will just have had new report sheets printed which includes it or the computer reporting programme been changed. But the link I gave you explains it all if you are interested.

I had a biopsey back in 1998 where they discovered class 4 Lupus nephrisis. Since then I've been on medication and my renal doctors are happy with my kidney function. I would suggest you focus on kidney function results. Hope this helps. There are may blood tests and rarely does one give the full picture. Best wishes Eddie
