Bad breath through nose

Hi everyone,

so I have been suffering from this bad smell that comes from my nose for a couple of years and I'm just really depressed not knowing what to do. It is literally impossible for me to socialize with people and if I walk in to a room I make the room smell bad and for that reason I always avoid sitting close to anyone. I have been to ENT doctor and she looked in my nose through a camera and found nothing. I have tried nasal sprays, neti pots, probiotics and nothing works. My diet consists of garlic almost everyday and now I'm trying to see if there is any correlation by avoiding it but I doubt there is cos my sister has the same diet and she has no smell coming out of her nose. So pretty much I'm desperate for any solution as this is really killing me in every single way. Does anyone have a similar sorry and maybe found a cure? It is just too much to handle since it's not something I have a control over. I wish I didn't have to breath.

Have others told you your breath smells? I ask because I have a disgusting taste and was convinced my breath must stink but it turns out to be part of my neuropathy and Sjögren’s and my breath apparently doesn’t smell bad at all.

But if you have garlic everyday then perhaps cutting it out will help you? What suits one family member may not suit another and you may have intolerances that she doesn’t share. If ENT can see nothing wrong then this doesn’t mean there is nothing wrong. It could be stomach or reflux related perhaps?

Best of luck getting it sorted out.

Have you seen a dentist or a hygienist. The smell maybe your tongue. Try CB12 mouthwash. Where do you live. I’m a hygienist. X

Yes, people have complained about an odd smell when I'm sitting like in a table. I'm convinced that it has to be coming from the stomach yeah. Thanks for the reply.

I had a bacterial infection causing a smell in my nose many years ago. A swab preceded a course of antibiotics and I haven't had a recurrence. I imagine you've had it swabbed though?

Yes, but no infection yeah.

I was also going to say dentist, as I have a back tooth that ocassionally starts to smell esp when I eat an apple for some reason!???

It doesn't do it all the time but when it does I constantly eat mints, dentist said to use floss things between my crown and filled tooth.

Hope u get to the bottom of it, it must really get u down.

Hi my husband suffers with this. And told by his doctor it is infected sinuses, he puts him on strong antibiotics and it clears it for a few months. But I know what you mean about the smell, l cant sleep in the same room as him , when he has it bad. Hope this helps. Hope you get sorted soon.

I believe Maxmagna has tried treating sinuses with no success. Far more likely therefore to be gut related - silent reflux and other problems often cause very bad breath. Ranitidine may really help.

Hey, all above are great ideas to look into. I too worked as a certified dental assistant for 20 years and the odd tooth did smell, and of course gum disease has a certain funk to it which makes one back away. I did work for a Dentist who had a breathy funk and had a hard time standing close to him. I always offered mints which he never would take. Then I got married and found my husband started to get the same funk. I noticed it more when he had Coca Cola, sugar substitutes and anything with caffeine. He stopped and it went away. He sneaks one in there or a hot chocolate and I know right away. He also gets it from foods he is sensitive too such as whey products, soya milk, things that you wouldn't even think possible. (Maybe garlic) He always thought I just didn't want him to drink the pop, which I didn't because he had a lot of it. I had a good laugh once when we were looking after a 5year old who leaned into him a foot from his face and said "PEE YOU!". I laughed so hard because he still thinks it doesn't effect him as much as it does and being I'm the only one who says anything, it was an eye opener. My husband has oral allergy sensitivities and irritable bowel syndrome which is under control now. He too has gone to a specialist and does the oral rinses with no relief. We even do the celery juice every morning to help our stomachs rebalance and it does wonders. You can do a basic allergy test at home with foods you suspect. There are a few sites on line that show you how, I've never mastered them but you might find one that works for you. Finger to thumb technique my massage therapist tried on me once while getting a NST therapy had started me off on a whole healthy eating routine to this day. She just asked my body about foods and made suggestions. It's a bit out there but I had no other options because my doctor wasn't very helpful with my symptoms. After a few months I felt better. She also showed me how to ask my body how many of each vitamins to take daily. I do the pendulum method, when I have time. I ask my body if this food is good for me? then tell my body to move forward for no, backward for yes. I know I've rattled on but who knows, it may help you.

I wish you luck with everything you try and go with an open mind.
