Crazy racing heart

Does anyone suffer from palpitation? I'm just sitting here in an armchair whilst working on my laptop. My heart keeps racing so hard it feels like I've been exercising. I had this on and off for years, but now I get a mild ache in my chest too

How long does it last? Has it been investigated in the past? If you are starting to get chest pain then it really should be investigated properly - there are all sorts of variety of arrythmias and tachycardia and some of them may start small but then develop as we age anyway. Some can be caused by autoimmune disorders damaging various cells so someone with an autoimmune problem does need to be aware.

I have atrial fibrillation - which caused similar symptoms which got worse over time. It was only after it was sorted with medication that I realised how often it had been present, I often wouldn't have mentioned it as a problem.

And if it gets really bad and is causing chest pain or lasts very long do call the emergency services - paramedics carry an ECG machine so they will get the evidence while it is still happening which is a very useful start. It never happens while you are the GP! Not that they often have an ECG machine...

I have periods of time being affected by this symptom. It probably is related to your Lupus but best get it checked out. I was told last year that it was just ectopic beats that I now probably have heightened sensitivity to. But they did say that I needed to keep getting checked when it happens just in case it's more serious than I realise. So please do get yourself checked out if it's worsening or changing as you describe.

Hi I get this too . I've had quite a few ECG which show ectopic beats but nothing more. I can be sitting quiet and it suddenly picks up speed ,can take a while to settle but I find drinking very cold water helps. I take hydroxychloriquine and it's been alot better since so I assume it's related to the condition although I've been told it can be menopause related too. If your ECG is OK try not to worry too much as that makes it worse.know your not alone x

Yes. I ended up in an ER 4 years ago, in abject pain. EKG showed nothing, except arythmia. BUT, later, during another episode, when another doctor, a rheumatologist explained that this oft overlooked, under recognised event is the lining of the heart, and in particular a certain valve getting inflamed due to being attacked by the Lupus sufferer's own immune system. Often minimised, and misdiagnosed as mere anxiety induced erythmia.

It is painful, and actually serious.

Yes, I do. And mine have been thoroughly checked out; have yours? If not, please do pester your GP for a referral to make sure things are ok
