Went into the chemist and asked about my tounge . It's oral thrush . Don't know what it is or how I got it . Paired £5 for some gel. Could have got it on prescription , it's cheaper to buy it then get a taxi to and back from the doctors .

Unfortunately oral thrush can be quite common in people with lupus because of the medications and/or symptoms of lupus. You can learn more about it at nhs.uk/conditions/Oral-thru...
Well it's nothing to do with medication haven't taken nothing for ages . Stopped taking my injections in May .
Did your doctor recommend that you stop your medications?
No - I might start again once I come back from my aunties next week . I was doing my exams and doing them on a Monday sometimes it hurt on the Tuesday . I wouldn't have been able to sit through some of the 2 hours exams . I don't take folic acid after either . Taking tablets make me feel sick
Hi LouLamb . It is really important that you take your medication as advised by your doctor. If you have problems with side-effects, then it is best to discuss it with them and they may be able to help by recommending different times/ways to take them or they may change your treatment regimen (such as decreasing dose) to find the right balance for you.
The medications are very important and can help to prevent/reduce long-term accumulation of damage to the organs. In some cases people with lupus are not aware of organs being damaged until the later stages (such as with the kidneys). You should only stop your medication under the supervision of your doctor. I'd urge you to please arrange to speak to your consultant or specialist nurse about your concerns.
Dear LouLamb
The consultant warned me about mouth problems, but I didn't know why. Since then, if I bite my lip or scratch my tongue on toast etc. the healing process is VERY slow and the pain keeps one awake. I keep Bonjela on the bedside table, and Dr's advice is to rinse mouth out with Corsodyl regularly - now I know why! Lupus is cruel like that..

I was told to use bongela or a mouth ulcer gel from Boots which seems to work.
I ended up with thrush in my throat after I had gall bladder surgery. There was a problem with intubating me and somehow that's what sparked it, I think. Also, I stopped taking my meds for a couple of days after the surgery, I have no good reason why I did that. It was so painful, I couldn't eat anything but jello, broth and popsicles for about a week until the antibiotics finally kicked in. Lost 15 pounds which is not a healthy way to lose weight! I learned my lesson about staying on my medication.
