Was reading today about my kidneys since they are scarred, and my urine has been clear for awhile. I was wondering if I could be classified as having kidney disease and should I go to the doctor.

I found that when I have trouble breathing, i thought it was because of anemia, low iron. And i usually take an iron supplement, and feel better. There is a connection between kidney issues and having trouble breathing. I read that when your kidneys are not functioning in tip top performance, your lungs can build up with fluid which makes it difficult to breathe. Anemia was mentioned. (I was slightly anemic when I was pregnant with my daughter) This has been troubling to me for a long time because I have terrible bouts of not being able to breathe. Especially cliimbing staircases, and in high heat and humidity) . My hematologist told me it could be a clot (have prothrombin gene mutation. Clotting problems). I dont think that is what it is.

I was wondering if anyone else has made this connection, and if so, what do they do about it?

Thanks!

Hi Natura. I don't have your scarring or your breathing problems. But I do have a very large renal cyst which hasn't been monitored as regularly as I'd like it to be. So I wonder if it contributes more to my high blood pressure and recent chest palpitations and breathlessness than anyone acknowledges. I have microscopic haematuria but my bladder and bowels are both fine - so this trace blood has to come from somewhere nearby I feel.

A friend was diagnosed with having epilepsy a few years ago. She lost her driving licence and was much affected but her instincts told her that her seizures weren't epileptic. So she did lots of research and had her kidneys scanned. One of these had completely failed and once it was removed she was free of seizures and eventually got her driving licence back although the neurologist took an age to accept this. If I were you I'd keep pushing hard for answers as I do too - and trust your best friend! X

Thank you twitchy for sharing your story and your friends. It seems we need to be vigilant with our care. I dont think doctors know a lot about this disease. I really believe doctors killed my mother. She probably showed up anemic in bloodwork, so they put her on iron pills. She died at the very young age of 48 from an ulcerated colitis and she turned yellow and her liver was wrecked. Gee, maybe too much iron is what destroyed her liver.

I have scarring in both kidneys. I wish it was only in one. My GP said that just because the sono report says scarring, doesnt mean they are scarred. What a jerk? I think it is time for him to retire. I dont see him anymore and trust very few doctors.

Have a nice weekend!

I still miss her, and grew up without a mom. Very hard. Plus, it still hurts today when i hear other people talking with their moms. Unfortunately, my mother in law never made me feel welcome in their family.

Be well today everyone!
