Stabbing pain in the head
Sorry I've got predicted text on and it's changed thing around
Hi maggie26, have you had a cold/virus recently. I have had two viruses in 4 months and I smell car fumes. Check to see if you can still smell it when you leave your home and go somewhere. Pain in head, if on one side, front lobe could be migraine, all smells and sounds etc are enhanced, I could even hear someone turning the pages of the newspapers from upstairs, now it's worse as have bungalow and more noisy than ever, can't tell my husband you can't read. Let me know once you carry out that little experiment. Nx
When I went through a long period of epileptic seizures and migraines, my particular aura included smelling burning rubber..intense and could not believe that others couldn't smell it, too. Might be worth checking out migraines with you GP as I gather it is fairly common to experience this. I hope you get answers soon. X
Hi musicteach, do you have that smell only when you are having a migraine or does it stay with you for longer, it's annoying when you are smelling it and because no one else smells it they think you are nuts. There is definitely something that can happen after a virus, it's classed as imaginary smell but has a name beginning with P, will look it up again and let you know just in case it relates to your problem. You need to take antibiotics to clear it. I wish GP's would recognise that sometimes when we go for a consult that we need to discuss more than one issue, like 6 you get so far and stop as you know they are running late and then you need to wait weeks to get another appointment, Im not saying we should have special treatment but would be nice to get it off your chest in one go. Take care Nx
Phantosmia...
It's called phantosmia and happens with some illnesses and some medications. I'd mention it to your doctor.
Hi Maggie26.
You've already got some great responses. I want to echo what PMRpro has said, it would be a good idea to mention this to your doctor. We've got a factsheet about the different ways in which lupus can effect the brain that you might be interested in. It's called 'LUPUS and the Brain' and it can be found here: lupusuk.org.uk/wp-content/u...
I get that stabbing feeling also. I had a r/s cerebral Aneurysm in 2001, before I knew I had Lupus. Lupus does mess with the nervous system. Mention it to you Dr.. As for the smell I often smell strange stuff, some smell good and some smell horrible. my aunt who's a nurse found it to be something called old phantom, it generally happens to people who have had head trauma, Its also a sign of an onset of a seizure which I have, remember seizures doesn't have to be violent or with the jerking as most know it to be. Please talk to your Dr about this, Hugs & Blessings
Hello maggie26. I was going to post tonight about my headaches / stabbing pains in my head for the last few days, but then I found your post. I have suffered from headaches, migraine & cluster migraine in the past but this is different. Short, sharp pains in my head. I've not been feeling great recently, rashes, aches and my fatigue is bad. I am currently waiting for the results to my skin biopsy- nape of neck. But also went to GP recently about twice occurring lower right abdo pain, with diarrhoea. I don't like these pains in my head but even with lupus diagnosis - SCLE - I still get the impression they think I am a hypochondriac- maybe I am. How's your head now? Did you go to see your GP?
I thought it was only me who smelt cigarette smoke! Nice to know I'm not the only one. There r more of u.
I have migraine and sometimes experience strange burning smells too - sometimes with migraine, sometimes without. My brother doesn't have the headache part of migraine (just nausea) but also experiences the burning smell. It's a funny old thing!
I have been experiencing the burning smel of cigarettes for over a year now to the point I feel I am choking on the smell. But I have never known how to address the problem to my Gp, but having read this post I amm ready.
