I do sheharem and on X-ray it's due to bony growths consistent with lupus and arthritis. I do hope it doesn't worsen for you 🌷

I take it you've been seen GP had X Ray or just maybe going?

Anyway, join the club - painful as it is - I'm happy as I've got an appointment now waited 4 mths to see specialist as osteo arthritis in left hip and left knee. Had knee problem for years been avoiding arthroscopic op as GP said didn't do much now read same being said officially.

But told by therapist he thought need knee replacement as front kneecap has just about disappeared. Hip not that bad pain but walking became more painful and recently affected left leg now 1" or more shorter than it was. So glad to get to see and hear why and what etc.

Dont know how much you're in pain but GP would have given you meds. And maybe sent you for X Ray etc.

Groin pain. Well for a long time I had this - and secretly thought its the dreaded C. Told GP said not a lot over few years.

Now therapist told me its an outcome from trouble with hip and Osteo etc.

My hip has cysts fm X Ray report. Hard to find out what happens which is why glad I phoned and told therapist head,, the 3 am nightmare I had over shortening of my left leg, which was get there finally see specialist who said - "oh dear if only you had come a month or so earlier too late now! " After that she said would hurry up appt and it came Friday. For Friday 4th Dec. Now anxious. Honestly not easy being green is it?

So dont be afraid to ask, I did from reading a note from someone else here to do just that ring and ask if close to getting to see the specialist. As was upset as met a lady who was working and could walk well enough whilst I cant - but had waited so far 18 mths at same clinic.

Go get it checked out if not already done. And pain meds are a bit of a problem but needed. Side effects etc affect us all different ways.

Hope that has helped to know not alone - another here and maybe farther along the path - hopefully to full recovery of walking around ability to stand up like a normal person instead of most painful experience, and constipation from pain meds. Lots of others has said to me after going through it that they are a lot better so we just have to put our faith in the fact we have some good surgeons and hope to God ours is one of the best!

Let us all know how to you go. Hope you have a good outcome.

Hi,

I also have groin pain. I was told that the groin pain is caused by the hip . ( Pain on the outside of the hip is very rarely caused by the hip and is usually muscular.) I had an xray and MRI scan to check it wasn't avascular necrosis of the hip which is apparently quite common in lupus and the main symptom is groin pain. Thankfully I didn't but it's just been put down to one of the many joys of lupus!! I find that walking a lot helps to mobilise the joint. I also take pain killers.

I hope you find some answers soon.

Take care xxx

Hello sheharam. You've got some great replies. 👏👍

There are quite a few of us here coping with one version or another of hip & groin pain. For instance, I'm 62 and my version of chronic hip & groin pain became a problem in my early 40s - many years before my infant onset lupus diagnosis was recovered & treatment began (that happened in 2010-11). Back then in my 40s, I was deeply into lifestyle management & conservative treatment methods. I was already doing the Alexander Technique, which gave me enough help with my posture to carry on...+ my GP prescribed NSAIDs & analgesics which at least numbed the pain a bit...+ I was using various orthotics (memory foam seat wedges & lumbar support pillows etc - especially important in car seats, + things like Thermacare lumbar Heatwraps were a lifesaver (available from Amazon, boots etc)). I also saw a good osteopath who prescribed a set of gentle daily stretching excercises. After months of conscientiously following his plan, the groin pain mostly settled. But the hip/glutes pain didn't. So he arranged an MRI, which only found a bit of osteoarthritis + mild spina bifida occulta. So he gave me a new set of stretching excercises. Meanwhile I learned to pace activity very strictly, to take daily naps lying flat with a cushion under my knees etc etc

But all that only helped so much. Eventually the hip/glutes pain became so debilitating that my GP referred me to the Pain Consultant who'd been treating my upper spine pain for years. He started me on an anti inflammation diet with high dose vit D & omegas + he carried out a series of bilateral facet joint Denervations to all my lumbar & sacrum joints, followed by rehab IMS (intramuscular stimulation - a type of dry needling). All this numbed the groin & hip pain enough so I could get by as long as I continued all the conservative measures (excercises, orthotics, posture training, diet & supplements etc).

Then in 2010-11 I finally started on lupus meds. Over the years that followed, the number & type of lupus meds in my treatment plan increased, and as they did, hurrah, the remaining vestiges of my hip & groin pain settled down even more. - which indicates that lupus inflammatory process has always been one piece of the pie chart of issues causing my version of hip & groin pain. The consensus is that my ligamentous laxity (due to hypermobility) + synovial sacrum joint inflammation + tendon tightening due to my lupus going untreated all those decades were responding positively to my Lupus meds. These are the daily lupus meds that are helping me most with my version of this pain.:

Hydroxychloroquine 400mg

Amitriptyline 20mg

Mycophenolate 1000mg

Prednisolone 3.5mg

And I no longer take any NSAIDs or analgesics for hip & groin pain!

maybe something in there can be useful to you...I hope so. As you can see, this subject is important to me...if anything in my story can help you or someone else reading this, everything I've gone through feels more worthwhile. I'd urge you to discuss your version of this with your doctors, if you haven't already

Take care, good luck🍀🌻 coco

PS please do see your GP about this & mention it to your lupus clinic. They'll examine you to determine whether this is muscle/joint-related or to do with internal organs

I love this site for answers like yours Barndown! This is a place of comfort, information, but they always let you know that you should see your specialist or doctor regarding your personal medical issues, even though we tend to have some of the same problems. Though this is true, I have found my best information from this site!
