When I where my hair up my scalp itches. Anyone ever deal with this situation? What is it, what can I do? I don't like wearing my hair down

Hi Dawn, i suffer with itchy scalp due to the medication I am on, I had my hair cut shorter in a bob the other day as I was finding the icing when my hair was up was driving me nuts, its a few things it could be I don't use hairspray when I pt my hair up but, because the hair was pulled closer to my head, my head would get warmer than when it was down and then it would itch alot more, I still have the itch the hotter I get the more it itches, steroids with me play havoc. My body heats up and then retains the heat. Even when I have cooled down it takes ages for the itch to ease of . x

I've been on the same medications for the past five years. And I don't use hair spray, gel or anything and I rarely used conditioner and have been using the same kind of shampoo for months. Is this something I should talk to my Dr about

Same here, for sure inform the GP or you consultant about it, i mentioned it to mine the other day and they are looking closer at my meds etc and the side effects. To see if I'm having a little reaction all of a sudden from them. Let us know how you get on. x

Lupus is a blessing then because I have lost most of mine, so at least I don't share that problem! ;O) Try baby shampoo or a perfume free pro

Have a good pain free day today.

Hi Dawn

Just wondering if you are on a antihistamine?

I get itching everywhere but it's generally kept bare able by these meds. Initially it was certriline but When the itching increased the doc changed it to fexofenaine.

I still get it but not as bad a before.

It's worth giving it a try as your not using much on your hair that might cause it. It's also handy to have the GP check your scalp as if your like me you will be paranoid there is something in there.

Mine often feels like crawling and with 3 dogs I was convinced I'd got something from them. I hadn't.

As I write this I'm itching, where's those meds.

Good luck

If it's coming out of the blue, keep an eye on the other symptoms as sometimes an itchy scalp or itchy ear signal the beginning of a flare.

I gt itchy scalp too - drives me insane at times - I tried changing shampoo/conditioner as also thought hair was getting thinner - changed over to supposedly organic type hair thickened up but still itches. Then realized it was histamines from preservatives as it got worse and eyes ears itched too. So anti histamine a necessary bedside additive these days. Always going to be and now all day at times. GP says its all the preservatives and additives in the food we eat. have done away with processed due to their adding deadly cancer causing additives as reported 10 years late by UN recently! Not the red meat or sausages its the preservative 223. And its near relatives. Don't get it so often these days but you do have to watch what you eat as found it even in frozen food! Sully me thought freezing was supposed to stop the need for preservatives. And also cooking like hams but no in they stick it to all these days. Hopefully now UN has found it at last maybe something will get done by politicians never know sometimes they do earn their keep.

Lots of antihistamines about. Used to buy Telfast 180mg as strong then found a new one lasts only 6 hours and pharmacist only 2mg so low but works fast called Polaramine.

contains Dexchlorpheniramine maybe called different name in UK.
