Arrrgh! Scalp!

I've had a dreadfully itchy scalp for around 2 weeks, so much so that I thought I must have headlice! I didn't..but I've just had my hair done..exactly the same as usual...I have it blonde, and my scalp was on FIRE!! Anyone else have these sort of reactions? Think I might have to embrace the grey!

I've had the same thing, and also thought I might have acquired some little crawling friends. The only thing that seems to stop it is steroids and using very mild baby shampoo.

Hi saintsmad, I also have problems with an itchy scalp and thought I had "passengers"! Lol I use Nizoral shampoo quite regularly. This eases the itching quite a bit. If like me your Lupus rash also gives you a sore sensitive scalp, it helps with that too. The shampoo is quite expensive, but it's the only thing that I'm aware of at the moment that helps for me .Also eases psoriasis too.

Before my diagnosis I thought I had nits on and off for literally about 4/5 months. I had 3 young children and was working in a school and so it was an obvious conclusion to jump to. I nit combed my hair virtually every day but nothing. For me, my back crawled too. Again, another wired lupus sensation. I haven't been able to dye my hair for about 5 years now I reckon. I have a terrible lupus rash at the nap of my neck - for longer than 5 years but only just confirmed by biopsy. So just not worth it for me plus no hair dresser will touch it. So my greys are coming along nicely. Are you flaring at the moment? Any other symptoms?

Yes..tooth ache type pain in wrists and ankles. Terrible stiffness in feet. Burning soles. Rashes and red feet..and ah ha! I too have a shocking rash nape of neck!

I get the aching wrists and ankles too. Do you think you might be having a bit of a flare up?

I reckon so. So tired and weepy and generally meh!

I was diagnosed with SCLE in October/November 2013. But no one could really say for sure what the rash at the nap of my neck was. So biopsy ordered and done this January. Definitely lupus. So it was worth having it done for me. Ties a few more loose ends up. Do you have a good GP or Dermy? Hope your meds get it all under control very soon. Best wishes.

THANK YOU WENDY I THOUGHT THE CRAWLING ON MY BACK WAS MY IMAGINATION. I HAVE HAD LUPUS FOR ABOUT 40 YEARS BUT WAS FINALLY DIAGNOSED WITH LUPUS IN 1993. MY HAIRDRESSER SUGGESTED FOIL LOWLIGHTS WHICH I TRIED & WAS FINE.

I am grey. Wont dye hair anymore. I still get a really itchy scalp from time to time. I just put organic cold pressed sesame oil on for 10 mins to however long you want (overnite). Works wonders. Anti inflammatory, anti bacterial.. GreAt stuff.

Your scalp may have reacted to an ingredient in the dye. I used one for years and suddenly it had the same reaction your describing. I've changed to an organic one and so far it's been fine.......I used an itchy scalp shampoo which helped but more important, you have to resist the urge to scratch!! 😀

I had the same problems! Now, instead of an all over colour I just get blonde highlights - they don't touch the roots or the scalp so I'm fine.

THIS IS A SURE SIGN OF LUPUS. I HAVE HAD THE UNBEARABLE ITCHING & HAIR LOSS FOR ABOUT 40 YEARS, SUGGEST YOU HAVE LOW LIGHTS IN BLOND COLOURS INSTEAD OF ALL OVER BLEACH. GOOD LUCK

:( Thanks...sounds the way it will have to go I reckon

I was in exactly the same position! Thought I'd have to lose the blonde but i found a natural hair dye in my local health food shop. It's called Herbatint. I'm using mild shampoo and no styling products and my scalp is easing now. Good luck with staying blonde! 😂

I also get a terrible itchy scalp... So, I only use a demi product to cover my grays. I never use anything too harsh on my scalp that will only contribute to the itchy scalp. At one point I even had Alopecia with large bald spots on my head. Thank goodness my hair grew back with the help of Steroid injections in my head. So, you don't have to go gray just yet. Get yourself a demi product instead. Never use anything with peroxide. This will help. Good luck...
