My vitamin d deficiency was picked up in the battery of tests carried out by my rheumatologist. I was severely deficient. It was a total surprise to me. He prescribed a high dose 1 week intense supply of dekristal tablets- 2 a day plus long term adcal- 2 tablets a day.

My vitamin D was deficiency was picked up straight away by my new consultant was dangerously low apparently, I was told to take a high loading dose then continue to take 3 tablets per week after that unfortunately the gp I seen to give me my prescription didn't agree with this and told me to build the vitamin D up slowly but least it was discovered

Yes mine was stupidly low as well. I have been photosensitive since I was 14 and I completely avoid the sun so with hindsight this wasn't surprising, but no one had ever thought to check before.

I received 2 lots of injections the first winter it was discovered at a very high dose. Then 2 lots the second winter. This last winter I haven't needed them. I've been taking Garden of Life Vit D3 - it's a natural supplement based on mushrooms, which personally I feel absorbs better into my body because it's food source rather than chemicals. I had my bloods done fairly recently and my Vit D is over 100. This is very good! So the Garden of Life supplements are definitely doing the trick.

...me too, diagnosed a couple or more years ago. I was complaining of muscle aches, shortness of breath and general fatigue. My then rheumatologist sent me for bloods to check vit D levels and sure enough they were below par.

I had to go to hospital once a month for 4 months to take high strength capsules not available outside the hospital services, and after that was prescribed Adcal 4 times per day. I'll be taking them for the rest of my life but I've since felt much better for them

Yes! - I have recently been tested for Vitamin D levels and to mu surprise, the results were very low!

The Dr. Told me to take a supplement of one tablet per day (he suggested Osteo-Vit D as being the best product). I did this for approximately one month and then was tested again to find that my levels were still low!! - I was then advised to take two capsules a day, which I have been doing for approximately four months!

I am amazed as my hair was becoming extremely thin and I appeared to have a receding hairline, which was very disturbing, however now, since taking the D supplement, my hair is now thickening up and has stopped falling out!!

My nails which have always been very strong, had also become very weak and were. Remaking all the time! Now they are back to their normal strength which is also wonderful!

I think it must have been one of my best days when someone finally, after years and years, decided to get a blood test done for my Vitamin D levels!!

I hope this is of some help to you!! (I only wish I had known, to ask the question myself, however it never occurred to me!!

I also recommend d you check your Magnesium levels as they are vital for immune system function as well as other important functions! (google Magnesium) .

BEST WISHES - TIZNANETTE 💗💗💗

Hi. There was a strand last week about this. Two questions came up those who were routinely tested for vit D versus those who did not, and whether tabs or drops best option. I posed the query of finding out nation wide whether WE could find out about that. It does not seem to be negative if diagnosed and there are lots of testaments on here that it does do us good. Found out something out, my poor almost invisible individular hairs seems to be down to lack of Vit D. I was tested and have had a short course of capsules then one a month and asked Dr for more as benefit worn off from really good feelings post course. I have to have another blood test.

Could there be anyway we could collate such data? it could be a good for all of us though not routinely a lupus test.

What do you think guys?
