D Mannose

Hello everyone

Just wondered if anyone here has used D Mannose tablets to manage recurrent urinary tract infections and if so with what success?

I’ve had this problem for a few years now and the Urologist suggested daily low dose antibiotics which I want to avoid.

Despite trying all of the self help tips I’m aware of, I just can’t seem to rid myself of UTI’s every few months and wonder if this yet another of the Lupus consequences I have for life?

Hi Rosa yes I use them and find them very good. I have tried a few different brands and Holland & Barret make effervescent tablets pleasant to take and they don’t interfere with all my other medications. My Urologist suggested taking them. Give them a try see how you get on.

Thank you UCTD. Definitely going to give them a try. Your urologist sounds enlightened. Mine just offers the antibiotics and surgical interventions.

I've had this problem too for a year. Wonder if it is the lupus? Hope it works for you, let us know how you get on please as I've never heard of this treatment x

Thank you BonnyB. Generally I can have up to 6 bouts of UTI in a year and sometimes the infection triggers off a whole range of other Lupus related issues. I read a little about D Mannose online so am keen to give it a go,

Hi RosaDI wasnt having UTIs as frequently as you, but having them nonetheless. I started DMonnose tablets (from Holland and Bharret) last year and I haven't had an UTI since, so worth giving it a go.

Please may I ask how often you take them?

Hi Rosa, I’ve been taking D Mannose 1500 mg for a few months now for UTIs. The D Mannose helped to clear up the infection along with vaginal oestrogen and, with continued use I’ve had no infection since. I found the supplement online but the oestrogen is prescribed so you could ask your Doctor about it. Hope it helps.

Used for many years to great success - I will try the effervescent ones from H&B from now on. Best way to keep UTIs at bay.

Rosa the urologist that suggested them told me that he sees a lot of patients with connective tissue disease who have recurrent UTIs and overactive bladder.

Seems to be yet another feature. D Mannose certainly helps if I am having a UTI I take one tablet 3 or 4 times per day, otherwise one tablet per day keeps the UTIs at bay.

They are on offer H&B at the moment which I try to avail of as they are expensive.

Best of luck 🤞

Thank you. I’m taking four a day at the moment as I have another infection emerging. No one has mentioned connective tissue disease but it is something I’ve thought about. I’m going to mention it at my next appointment.
