It does sound like a urine/kidney infection, am surprised no anti Bs were given, even if lab test says, change to a different one when the results come back. All I can say is, whatever the cause, try to drink lots of fluid, especially water to help flush it through. Pain in your back is usually kidney pain, and will sometimes be present with this problem. Hope it soon eases for you soon.

Thank u the receptionist just said they won't treat me Untill thy know what antibiotic to give me I feel really rough tonight slight headache backache feeling sick my mum said should have given me something and changed it if it wasn't right if I feel worse tomorrow I go a& e I don't ever cause a fuzz but really feel bad tonight

Well me and your mum must think alike !!! Don't know why you feel sick though. Lucky I don't get much of this, so wouldn't know if it is connected. Yes, I would go A&E, or out of hours, walk in centre. They wouldn't leave theirselves like this, if it was them.

Make u right I never make a fuzz I have a high pain barrier also I tend to put up with more than I should I'm guessing a combination of my medication and the infections and all the aps sle and tumour all have something to do with the way I feel I'm more worried because the tumour is behind my pelvis just hope everything is ok I'm sure I will find out soon enough

Hi lennox, sorry to hear that you are feeling so rough.

Did they do a dipstick test to check for infection at all? If they suspect that it is a water infection, Im lost as to why they didn't give you something. In my experience, they usually give you a short course of standard antibiotics (usually Trimethoprim for 3 days) to stave off the potential infection until lab results come back and they can change the medication to suit the particular results should they test positive for bacteria.

If you are having back pain or side pain atall, this could indicate your kidneys getting involved too and infection there can make you quite poorly so don't just ignore it. Ive had nausea with UTI before also. If you have the means to do so, check your temp as a raised one can be another indication of water infection.

If you are concerned, don't just sit on it over the weekend. I have been treated for UTI at walk in centres many a time (I have interstitial cystitis so possible UTIs pop up really frequently) and they have always been really helpful. Of course, that is assuming it is infection but if you are feeling so bad and are having these symptoms, you need to atleast rule it out.

Goof luck!

If you have a urine infection they will send a sample to the lab so they know what antibiotic will work in the mean time drink plenty of water and I hope you feel better soon

oh I'm sorry wafrin is not nice. I had a urine infection for ages it is painful I do wonder if I pick mine up from the swimming pool

in reply tolennox

You could also try some fresh Lemon juice with your water (No sugar) as this can also help to rebalance the urinary tract etc as when with cystitis etc instead of the cranberry juice. Hope this helps. Its just SO uncomfortable x

Did you get your antibiotics? As on admission says they have done a urinalysis but if nitrates didn't come up and no one informed the Gp of symptoms then they will wait for the specimen result.

They do not always give antibiotics but I agree in your case I'm surprised they didn't
