Yes, looks like a trip to GP is needed to sort it out. If it is Thrush it's easily treated and will help your mouth. I've found Biotene Toothpaste is really good for dry mouth. You might be able to get the Mouthwash on prescription. Good luck, the medics always give us extra work to do and they're not ill!X
initially it came to light after i was prescribed antibiotics(twice) so me and dr thought it was a reaction to them and then it didnt clear so think it s somethign else .maybe that's why I am unable to get some words out correctly.i know people don't always understand me or I have to repeat what I say ie I m sure im not saying the name of my street properly(begin s with br).
Sugar free mints can be good for stimulating saliva. It's surprising how we need everything in our bodies to work properly! I've found I can't talk properly when my mouth is dry, Biotene is fab for this and it's an antibacterial. Have you asked your Dentist?. Might be worth it if not much help from GP!. Good LuckX
Hi anbuma, I am a medical receptionist and people like the one you spoke to give us a bad name ! We are certainly not qualified to give any results to patients-and you shouldn't need to go all the way down to the surgery-you should ask to speak to a nurse or have a telephone consultation with your doctor
some of the receptionists are really helpful and will do their utmost to be so and others just go out of their way to be awkward???I don't know where in the country you are but do different surgeries have different rules?i always used to be able to phone up for blood results by speaking to a receptionist.isnt a waste of the drs time having to speak to them to get results?i did email the dr concerned as she wasn't in surgery on the day I called.make an appointment??
Well perhaps some surgeries work differently-but at ours, all blood and swab results are dealt with by a phone call from the nurse, and we have times allocated to telephone consultations with the doctors-and ours will call back to discuss anything with you. Hope you come right. Should you ever have to take a course of antibiotics try eating lots of yogurt while taking the meds-it keeps thrush at bay ! really it does
my surgery does not appoint a nurse to deal with blood results etc tho have a phlebotomist to take bloods.nor allocated times to speak with drs-but dr will call at end of surgery.was told to eat live yoghourt but only after antibiotics reaction.
Thanks for the laugh - luckily, the receptionists at my surgery are really good and always as helpful as they can be - sometimes in the face of enormous provocation, I should say! Good luck getting the *right* answer!
I'm going to give the receptionist the benefit of the doubt because I think everyone deserves that, and she may just be reading the GPs note to patient. Is it possible that swab confirmed it was thrush caused by antibiotics, as GP suspected, and GPs note has advised you to keep using the medication you were prescribed when she said it was thrush ie. that's the correct treatment, it isn't anything else so keep using it, but it's just been badly worded? Just a thought, since GP mentioned thrush all along? I could of course be wrong...x

saw gp this afternoon(not my own)and she asked if I ahd had antibiotics recently ?said yes -by the hospital-said I ahd oral thrush and to look at my tongue.this seems to be a recurrign problem when given antibiotics-no more for me.said I wasn't gettign to sleep til 3am and havign nightmares fro last 2 weeks.she checked meds and said I shouldn't be on imipramine or the anti depressant im on and they could combine the two.told her I still thought it to be thyroid problem cos of recent weight loss and sleep probs-.she said if still think that and med prescribed for oral thrush doesn't help then come back.forgot to ask for referral to drematologist
This is the post I was talking about, it's a few weeks old but maybe that's the medication she's referring to, if the swab has shown thrush?? Just wanting to reassure you that it may be nothing to worry about, perhaps they think you still have the oral thrush meds left? Might explain confusion although obviously it could have been explained to you a lot better!! X
yes but why is it there.i hasn't gone down at all now 2 weeks on so think it s more than a reaction.when took swab assumed they would be looking for a cause(or something else maybe) not just to confirm it was thrush.knew that it was and the only meds prescribed were an oral gel to use for a few days. it could have been there a lot longer and only came to light when I saw her for something else-my mouth has felt dry and a strange taste sometimes btu I ve never looked at the back of my tongue.
