I have sle not discoid lupus. For me the pain takes off if I have pushed beyond my limits or I am in a flare. If I am in a flare it often requires more immune supression to control the pain.

Hi, I'm so sorry to hear that :( I have sle & struggle everyday with pain & swelling in my knees & am now wheelchair bound at times due to it. I take slow release tramadol & that is the only thing that helps. I don't like taking them but needs must. Sometimes I find placing a pillow under my knees helps in bed & having them elevated during the day helps, I hope this helps you & you have a pain free christmas. X

Hi, I don't have discoid lupus, but do suffer with my knees, it's been constant for 2 years, until I got the right balance of meds, it always seemed to get worse in the evening when I needed to sit down or been on feet too long. I take a mixture of meds, finding the right dose will help you, maybe speak to dr/consultant about trying a course of steriods - if it helps you know your in the right path. They may taper it back down and pain may come back. They may try again etc xxx wishing you a very Happy Christmas also x love n light

When my knees get painful it's usually after I've been sitting for too long. I get this painful swelling just below kneecap on the inside but the entire knee joint hurts in any position. I have fibro, discoid lupus, possible systemic lupus and/or sjogrens, and OA in my knees.

The best treatment I have found is to wrap them with a flexible ice pack. It came in a cloth pouch with a wide elastic band and Velcro on the end to secure. I can actually wear it while I do housework. I've used an ace bandage to hold the ice pack in place but it doesn't stay put as well.
