I've found that too. My skin seems thinner and definitely more prone to wrinkles.

My hands are always dry and often bleed.

Drink as much water as you can each day, at least 8 full glasses of liquid (Not alcohol as that makes it worse). Most of our medication has this affect especially Steroids and Plaquinil. I was told by my Lupus specialist to drink more water, I mix mine with Tonic water and am getting more Quinine and that helps the Cramps I get in my legs. I am 66 and tell everyone they are Laughter Lines. I don't mind them, they are part of what my life has been.xx

Ive suffered with my skin all my life and only recently found out it was Discoid Lupus ... Ive never suffered so badly until taking hydroxychloroquine ...my legs are terribly dry now almost scaly .. I was given a Dermobase lotion but it doesnt help much ... I itch all over ...and hands and feet are bad too ... -x-

Moisturize your face at lease twice daily and have a bath at least once a week with bath or olive oil added to the water and then soak yourself in the bath for at lease half an hour. It really rehydrate your skin.

yup I do all that...

OK, my Mom a Brit, had beautiful skin till her 90's..was on tons of heart meds and water pills later in life...sigh

She was green eyed ,slightly darker skinned than I (fair/blue eyes)...and yes!!!!! her secret was Olive oil :)

She seem to steam her face, then use olive oil on it at night..

Ive bought expensive creams nothing works and I look for sunscreen because was told to use sunscreen...most here where I am only have for face the most spf 15 .

PS/ My Moms friend use to also ingest a tablespoon of olive oil a day...she was Italian that lady, nice skin.

forgot to say..plaquenil must be a baddy on skin.............I wont take steroids, bad reaction. In drug reactions, it doesn't list anything about it drying your skin out, but it must. (only thing that's changed with me recently).

PS/However...my mom was a skinny gal, could eat anything...loved lots of butter on her bread, fried tomatoes, bread etc...did her heart in, I think, but nice skin....back in the 80's I cut fats way down....I think im gonna add good ones back in more.

Yes Olive Oil :) The health visitor told me to use it on my son when he was born... he had dry skin ... I used to use it years ago but forgot about how good it is -x-

Very interesting reading all your comments.... I too am on plaquenil and have really dry skin. I'm 39 but feel that I look so much older. My hands are terribly dry but I thought it was down to the raynauds. Also the skin on my legs seems paper thin and so dry. I never thought about it being the plaquenil....bummer!

Think I will try the olive oil in the bath - do you add just a little drop with bubble bath in too or just on its own?

I use to have a bath, then shower off soap residue on my skin..then refill tub, add oil to fresh bath water...you could just have a shower..then fill tub a bit and add oil...I use to use baby oil in my water,so a long squirt. I'm going to switch to olive oil...couple tablespoons? pat dry when u get out...
