Hi,

I claim ESA but only the National insurance contributions. I am not sure if you have worked whether you can get that but you might be able to get the other part of ESA .They needed me to send the doctors note is important and it doesn't cost you money. Just need to get doctors to sign you off as not fit for work etc. I'm not sure how it works if you haven't worked. But you will need a sick note.

Hope that helps?

Hi,

i believe there are two types of ESA available to claim either: contributions based or income based. Obviously if you've worked and paid in you would be entitled to support on that basis, but if you haven't then any payments would be means tested and would consider the income of others in your household.

The need for a gp sick note is to evidence that you are not available for work due to ill health.

All the best

You will get income based ESA which is means tested. You have to provide a sick note to prove you are not fit to work and they should not cost you anything. You will have to also go for a medical arranged by ESA
