B12 and lupus?

I have been recommended taking B12 to help improve my fatigue. Has anybody had any good results with it? Or any bad ones?

I have vit B12 injections every 3 months and was so happy when i was told it would make me less tired but i've been disappointed as have had them for about a year now and no difference. My last 3 bloods have shown me to be anaemic too so not helping with that either. Vit B12 must help for some though or they wouldn't give it i suppose, so I hope it works for you x

Hi Lynn I'd recommend you ask your Dr to test you for Coeliac disease (another auto-immune). It also causes anaemia and low B12. Also ask them to test your intrinsic factor to exclude Pernicious Anaemia. As I'm sure you'll know once you have 1 auto-immune it's sadly easy to collect another as they tend to travel in pairs - like buses! Good luck.

You need injections more frequently than every 3 months. Request your GP give them to you more often. Treatment every three months is enough to keep you alive, but certainly not thrive!

It takes a while to kick in but they do help.

All the best

Hi

I have injections every three months and think they do help, in fact I know when I am due one as I feel really rough. My surgery often give it to me a week early to avoid this. Hope they work for you. :)

I mentioned this to my Consultant who, because I have regular blood tests every 4 weeks - said my Vitamin B levels are normal. i think that if these decrease then this would be reviewed.

Hi!

Have you had your B12 levels checked? If not then I would suggest asking for a blood test. You might be able to get the injections, as mentioned above. If you decide to go down the supplement route then do check with your doctor first. Also (as I registered nutritionist) I would suggest that if you do decide on supplements take a multi-B vitamin supplement rather than just B12. B6, B12 and folic acid work very closely together and if there is an imbalance it can cause issues. If you can get a blood check with your doctor that would be a great start point.

B vitamins can help with fatigue and may also help with mood/depression in some cases.

Withing you well
