Dad diognosed with lung cancer.

My dad had been coughing for a while and recently coughed up blood. He went for a chest x-ray which showed up 2 shadows on he's left lung. He went for a CT scan and had a bronchoscopy. The results were that he has lung cancer and it is close to he's heart so they can't operate. Theres another hospital appointment coming up where they're going explain everything to him and will start a course of chemo and radiotherapy. He looks well and am struggling to get my head around it.

Hi there. I'm hoping that at your next appointment you'll get introduced to a Lung Cancer Specialist Nurse. S/he will be an invaluable source of support and information. Please ask if there is a Lung Cancer Specialist nurse if there is not one present at your next appointment.

Hello

It sounds as though your Dad will be meeting the consultant oncologist to discuss his treatment. I also have a tumour which is too close to my heart for an operation to remove it. I have just undergone MVP chemotherapy and 20 sessions of radiotherapy - this is called chemoradiation. I now have to wait until mid-august because of inflammation etc before I will know how affective my treatment has been. On the whole I have come through the treatment well, it affects everyone differently but I am very tired. I wish your Dad well with his treatment and he will feel better once he has talked to the specialist Nurses.

Regard

Thankyou for sharing with me about what you are going through. It sounds so simular to my dad.

He has had a meeting with the consultant and is set to start both the chemotherapy and radiotherapy either this week or next. I hope he gets through the treatment as well as you. Are you taking any suplements or doing anything that helps. I am a reflexologist and have started giving him treatments. I wondered if there is anything l could sugest to him.

All the very best to you.

Hi

I am just resting, listening to my body. I have nausea, heartburn, indigestion, I am managing all of this though. I did have 10 sessions of accupuncture before my treatment but that was for anxiety. Let us know how your Dad gets on! Good Luck!

Hi,

My dad has just had he's first chemo session, doing well so far. I know there is a long road ahead.

You are doing so well, l am giving my dad reflexology treatments for anxiety which l think is fairly simular to accupunture. It seems to relax him which is great.

Will let you know how he gets on, and please let me know how you get on.

All the very best to you.

Hi Georgi, I have just been diagnosed with stage 4 inoperable lung cancer, along with Pericarditis. This is a heart infection which has been caused by the cancer. At first they thought it was caused by a viral infection. I was told to rest up for two weeks with anti-inflammatory drugs it would clear up. This didn't so then my doctor gave me aspirin for ten days. Still didn't clear up. So at another hospital appointment I didn't feel well so they suggested I go to A&E which I did and they did a chest x-ray and that's when they saw something on my lungs. I was admitted to hospital and after the weekend saw the specialist and he told me it was cancer and that they are going to do more x-rays, scan's and biopsy. But I can go home. Now I am just back from my appointment with my Oncologist and now I have to wait for 3rd August. Trying to stay positive!

Hi, Georgie1,

It's such a shock when you don't even think you could be ill. We all thought my dad, including himself had just got a chest infection. He didn't feel or look poorly and now after 3 chemo treatments so far, he is still looking good and is feeling well (apart from a little tiredness)

The best thing to do is stay positive. I feel there is real hope in every situation and l'm really glad l found this blog because it has really helped me stay positive, given me Inspiration and lots of hope.

Please let me know how you get on and stay positive!
