Covid Shot or No Covid Shot. That is the question!

In March of 2021 I received my first Covid 19 shot. A week later my platelets dropped to 3,000. I was put in the hospital and received platelet transfusion and IVIG treatments. A year later I now have Chronic ITP and am on 75 mg of Promacta. My platelet levels are in the normal range now. I was advised by my doctor not to get my second Covid 19 shot. I know the Covid 19 shot triggered my ITP but also see on this platform that others with ITP have gotten their full panel of Covid 19 shots. I am interested if others who have gotten all their shots had ITP prior to Covid or developed ITP after getting their first shot. I worry that my platelet levels will drop again if I get another Covid 19 shot, but also worry about getting Covid without any protection since it has been almost a year since my first shot.

Hi, I did some reading and saw thank people whose platelets dropped from the vaccine generally had platelets rise again in a few weeks. If they contracted Covid the results were much worse. Sorry I can’t tell you where I read my information.

Hi I have had two shots and a booster and it has not made any difference to my platelet count. I feel more protected having had the shots but it is an indvidual decision.

That’s a difficult call. That must’ve been scary. My platelets hover around 50 for about 5 years now. Im on 75 mg of promacta as well. I got Covid in July 2020. I’m 50 in good shape. Never got vaccinated after reading about that Miami doctor whose platelets went to 0 and he died a week after getting vaccine. NYT did a story on it. That freaked me out a bit so I got antibody test instead and my antibodies have held strong for 18 months now through natural immunity. My wife was fully vaxxed and still got it and was very sick for two weeks. Here’s the bottom line. If you’re at risk and haven’t had Covid, consider getting shot but have your doctor monitor you EVERY DAY. Natural immunity is the golden ticket, if you believe the studies at University of Tel Aviv and in Qatar. You can read online. The US gov has ignored natural immunity, which is another conversation. Good luck!

Hi, I am in the same sitation as you. Not being able to get the 2nd dose vaccine.

Feel like the 1st vacine wore off my system since a year now. I have not heard back from my doctor. I am still waiting for my exemption to get approve by Healh Canada... Evrything is taking so long...

Did your doctor ever though of giving you the dose for children?

I wonder if that is possible.

Please do research on juicing papaya leaves. My husband went from a count of 37 to 185 in a letter of weeks after we juiced fresh papaya leaves and he took a tablespoon in the morning and in the evening for several days. This has helped many people! juicing-for-health.com/papa...

There is absolutely NO evidence whatsoever to suggest that papaya leaf juice or extract has any impact at all on the platelet count. It is just wishful thinking I am afraid to suggest that it will help. DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING AT ALL without referring to your ITP specialist or medical advisor.

I have discussed papaya leaf extract/juice with the leading ITP experts in the World and they have no hope that it will do any good at all in helping with ITP. In fact it mat do more harm than good.

There’s LOTS of evidence and studies done proving this to work. There are NO pharmaceutical companies willing to back this because they can’t profit from it!!!

My ITP came back from the 2nd Covid Jab after 10 years in remission. From 200k to 3k. I am not responding to eltrombopag at the minute. My consultant immediately asked me ‘when did you have your last jab?’ And it seemed pretty clear to have caused it. I also had Covid in Oct 2020 with no severe symptoms so for me personally it really wasn’t worth getting the jab. If only we wouldn’t be singled out from society for not doing it… I think there needs to be more information readily available. I told my administrator about my past ITP when I went to get my first shot and they got a doctor who said ‘should be fine but we will monitor you for 30 mins after’… excellent

I am sorry to hear that your second Covid 19 shot caused your ITP to flare up again. After 10 months the doctors still have not found anything that works for me except Prednisone. I took my first NPlate shot 4 days ago and am crossing my fingers that the shot will help me become stable. Best wishes your counts come back up and you reach the stage of remission.

I am at 4k platelets atm. The spiral was triggered by my covid vaccine, and like you, there is no way in heck I am stopping the vaccine administration. My oncologist is putting me on my booster in 4 months, but we are going to do the antibody infusion rather than a booster. There is no way of knowing what the result is going to be, but we are both agreement that actually contracting covid-19 would be far worse medically than itp treatments.

Start that conversation asap with your doctor, a good plan/roadmap will bring a great deal of peace of mind and mental security for the future.

Thank you for your response. I would really like to know how your antibody infusion works with your ITP. Prayers and good luck.
