Just wondering if anyone that has had covid has seen whether it effected platelet levels?
My platelets have been really high for last few months then they dropped quite a bit last week and then I have got covid. They were at 79 last week so just thinking if they might go down further with now having covid. I've had all my vaccines/boosters and thankfully I don't have covid symptoms too bad it's just the exhaustion I'm struggling with.(which could also be cause my ITP). Any advice or insight would be appreciated

Hi. I had an extremely sore throat and mild cold-like symptoms in early January after being in the company of someone who tested positive for covid at Christmas. However all the lateral flow and 2 pcr tests were negative. Then on Saturday past 5 Feb I got my 4th covid vaccine (as fall into category of vulnerable). On Tuesday I got my platelets measured and was so shocked. They’d fallen to 32 from 119 in December.I wonder if there’s a link with the vaccine, not so much covid itself as I don’t think I’ve had it
Every time I have had my COVID injections I have been hospitalised a month after, as my platelets have dropped dramatically. The specialist says that the injection forces a strong immune response. Therefore this could be a strong trigger to ITP Flareups.
But be encouraged with the right care and medication it does rectify itself 😁
If its any comfort I have primary chronic ITP and also became unwell for weeks after having the first two Astrazeneca vaccines. Not as bed ridden after having a Pfizer Booster but was very fatigued every time.
I caught Covid in first week of Jan 2022, it felt like a heavy cold and that's it really. Two weeks later blood results showed my platelets had dropped to 21.
Haemo consultant's Knee jerk reaction was to increase my dosage of Revolade but I've resisted and remained on 25mg until next bloods later this month.
Revolade(Eltrombopag) for me helps with my platelet count but I feels it definitely increases joints and tendon pain.
I've argued for years with consultant for years that for me there is a correlation between fatigue/exhaustion and lower platelets but he has insisted there is "no system" to show this.
Sorry to hear your platelets dropped so low! It's revolade I am on also I have recently just reduced my dose to 25mg every day so hoping the platelets won't be affected too much and I can remain at that level. I will get ny bloods next week so 🤞 x
European Journal of Haemotology had an article years ago that linked low platelets and fatigue. I brandished it at the junior doctor doing my blood review at Leuven years ago.
I wish you luck. I’d been on 50mg Revolade for months and last summer I was getting fairly consistent levels. So I persuaded the doc to reduce to 25mg and unfortunately it was a disaster so 3 months later I went back up to 50. I’m lucky I don’t get any bad side effects except my hair definitely falls out more. I really hope you have more success than me!
My platelets dropped from 200 to 9 and then now 3 after the jab. I’ve been in remission for my ITP for 10 years! Be cautious guys, I wish I knew how correlated ITP was to issues with vaccines but it had been so long since I’d suffered I thought I’d be ok
