hello everyone I haven’t posted for a long time now but since I was in ICU in 2019 on a ventilator the Covid pneumonia as left my lungs in a bad way I have at least 3-4 chest infections a year and have to have very strong antibiotics and steroids but a couple of weeks ago I ended up back in hospital because I am epileptic and I had back to back seizures so my husband phoned an ambulance and my oxygen levels was 80 and my heart rate was 45 so I was put on intravenous antibiotics and fluids I was not well at all the Covid pneumonia is a very nasty thing I’m 50 now but I’m always very weak it’s also left my vitamin B, C, and D low so I’m also on 3 lots of vitamin tablets on top of my other medication but I am a fighter and I don’t give in to be honest having Covid pneumonia 5 years ago as made me stronger to never give up
Covid pneumonia : hello everyone I haven’t posted... - ICUsteps
Covid pneumonia
I hear what you are saying….3 years ago for me. Waking up in ITU changed everything & I wake up everyday with a smile and grab the day, as I don’t expect to get tomorrow (sounds negative but its very positive). You dont only live once…..you die only once, you live every day!
I too find that every snotty nose turns into a chest infection now, and carry a rescue pack of steroids & antibiotics.
I got such bad experience with some doctors, dismissing what had happened and just blaming weight & unfitness fir my shortness of breath - got told to steam my face when Sats drop.
I have, and am still working so hard at my fitness (daily breathing exercises, resisted breathing, swim open / cold water daily for 30-90 mins (depending on how cold) & dog walk/jog everyday for 3-5 miles, never sit long in my job (medical) & am mega positive naturally….. went to Iceland for my 50th this year (the country, not the shop) and feel deeply grateful for life.
I wrote up my experience and shared it with the ITU team, and now do ‘patient experience’ talks about delirium, rehabilitation, ITU stays and life afterwards to critical care teams - as my way of paying-it-forwards as a thank you to them all.
Look after yourself 🍀💪🏽🍀🤞🏽
