fluid on lungs

hi

my mum has had part of her bowel removed today it was twisted but they are keeping sedated in icu for 48 hours because she is unstable because she has fluid on her lungs and they haven’t been able to complete the operation. she’s really quite frail (aged 84) and I’m just wondering why she has fluid on her lungs when the issue was bowel . They said there was fluid on Saturday when they did the first ct scan but a lot more today - will the fluid now be a permanent thing or even worse stop her recovery . Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated 🙏🏻

Hi

From my understanding fluid on the lungs is not uncommon. In my case I had 4 drains in my lungs to drain the fluids. It can affect recovery. I was in a coma for nearly 2months. Apart from other issues I also had open heart surgery.

I’m sure they will be able to suction or drain it off.
