Don't worry about reading if too long and boring..............
After a year that was pretty much boring (felt well, no changes to meds etc.) along came June, which fell over!
Started with broken ankle (missed that darn bottom step) and then a week in Hospital with a bowel obstruction followed by yearly Ophthalmologist appt- "Goodness, your cataracts have grown much worse. Time to fix at least one before I'm on leave" and then an odd crunch in my mouth as a tooth lost a filling and part of of the tooth.
All this can be fairly routine until APS gets thrown into the mix. I get all the young hotshot Drs trying to put in a cannula-all declaring how easy it is-one even bought his mate along to 'learn' how easy it is. After multiple attempts I put my foot down and asked for an U/sound and someone competent to use it. After admission the surgeon came with his gaggle of students and told me I had 2 choices- an NG tube or surgery (both of which I respectfully declined) After glaring at me he said "of course it's your choice!" and flounced off. After nearly 11 hours in a wheelchair in ED I needed the pain relief and the only reason I stayed. Another argument about the "very high" dose of Clexane I use and am I sure I need this much? My Haem works out of the same hospital, so ask him tomorrow-Don't think he'd like to be woken @ 3am to be asked!!
Off to Dentist who looked puzzled and said "Didn't we just do a checkup a month ago?" Of course we did but that was a month ago-and everyone knows a lot can change in a month!
Cataract surgery booked for Early August so fingers crossed for that one. Meanwhile the GP was away for a fortnight the day after my broken ankle, and read my discharge letter and just looked at me! I told him no more holidays for him. It gets too wearing to have to argue with someone that has no idea of your medical history. (AND DOESN'T LISTEN!)
If you ploughed through all this -thanks. Just need to get stuff off your chest at times

Oh boy- we challenge the 'best' (being sarcastic!) in them! Your doing your best - oh its so frustrating, we learn to manage our APS and we do so well, especially you.Be proud you got through that night and hope the ankle heals well and quickly.
Be thinking of you in August, one more thing to deal with but knowing you your handle it all with your lovely sense of humour.
Sorry but I had to laugh! You sound like me! Just last week when talking to a Neurologist he said to me “why hasn’t somebody offered you these or this drug before?” …… with a big sigh I said “ because between cancelled appointments meaning waiting over a year to actually talk to anyone, no one actually asked me any of these questions!
I do hope your ankle heals well and on a brighter note I’ve just had both cataracts done, one was a bit more difficult than the other but I’m finally discharged with much better sight. So wishing you luck with yours, it’s a much brighter world when they are done!👀
So sorry you have had all that to deal with. Everything so much more difficult when your treatment is questioned and you aren't listened to. I have encountered flouncing too! Would be funny to see in an adult if it were different circumstances. I hope things progress more smoothly for you from now on.
Good luck! And, by the way..., my eye doctor, ( who was the first to suspect APS based on my retina appearance,) suggested years ago that I take Thera Tears brand Omega 3 supplements. He had spotted " baby cataract," and thought those pills might help. After a year I found that those night glares when driving had disappeared! I was looking out of the eyes I had when I was a teen! The doctor attributed my eye cataract issue reversal to those Omega 3 pills.
Thanks, I'll have to investigate whether I can get them here. I do have night glares and don't like driving at night for that reason. I'm afraid that my cataracts are no longer 'babies'
Ankle still a bit swollen but all the rest of my bits seem to be coping well . The bowel obstruction usually happens as a result of a few previous surgeries and adhesions. If I stop eating it *usually* goes away if I keep the surgeons from sharpening their knives over me!
Good to hear! ( ohhhhh. Now I have have dreadful image of surgeons sharpening knives over you on a in a surgical theatre- only your exposed abdomen in a golden roasted Christmas turkey….
