Hi guys
Suffering badly with joint paint , what does everyone take for it , apparently I can only take paracetamol because of the warfarin.
I’m sorry you’re suffering. I take hydroxychloroquine and codeine which both help x
Codeine make me ill 🤢 I’m not on hydroxchloroquine , going to sort next app with Dr x
Yes, and codeine derivatives make me very ill as well.
I wish you all the best with hydroxychloroquine; I understand it is a miracle drug for many.
Hot soaking baths help with me, but I have minimal joint pain. I can have muscle heaviness, and the hot baths help. ( especially with the ,”flu feelings” when the skin and hair start hurting...
I’m not sure if that’s the same, though.
Hi Amy. I agree with Kelly. Hydroxychloroquine worked for me. Takes a while to work - like 3 months to really see an effect. I could hardly walk because the pain in my back was so bad.
Some things I used to help in the meantime. I took Tylenol around the clock - 1000 mg every 8 hours. I’m pretty sure you can take this with warfarin. 650 mg does nothing. I also used lidocaine patches with icy hot. They work well for about 6 hours. Stretch in the shower and try to mobilize as much as you can. Heating pads/blankets are also helpful for your sofas/chairs. For hands and feet, a good CBD lotion will give you an hour or two of relief. I can’t take opioids or I vomit for days.
Hopefully some of these things will help while you start hydroxychloroquine. I didn’t think it was working until I stopped and my body turned into a ticking time bomb. Good luck! I hope you get some relief. Let us know how you make out at your appt.
JMiller,
One Tylenol on the rare occasion might be ok with warfarin, but if you take two or more consecutively ( for example when I had the actual flu A and had to take every 4-6 hours to control fever ) it really spiked up my INR.
There are published papers supporting this-maybe university of Kentucky?
CBD lotion I have heard is very helpful. I don’t know if it’s available in the UK.
I take Hydroxy - Morphine and Oxy's - for muscle spasms - tizanidine and Baclofen . Hope you get this under control C & J
Hi, I only use Paracetamol, but I am on LDN, which has reduced my pain considerably over the years, but I fund this myself, I am allergic, seriously so, to most medication including antimalerials MaryF
Paracetamol and Tylenol are virtually the same thing. Can’t find any publications with resounding statistics that would make me fear taking paracetamol with warfarin. It does potentiate warfarin at high doses >3gm. Just keep close eye on INR and let your doctor know. Everyone is different. Your INR may have also been labile from infection/blood pressure/malnourishment as opposed to just Tylenol. Very rare for this to affect INR. We give it to cirrhosis patients on the regular.
Hydroxychoquine has really helped me, plus paracetamol when needed.
I like MaryF also self fund take LDN, which certainly has reduced the flares.
My joint pains have usually been confined to one joint: hip ( until replaced,) knee, ( also replaced,) and now neck, ( cause?) I have profited from topical creams - even in topicals have aspirin like compounds, very, very little seeps into the blood stream so my INR remains stable. Also, no official data, but blue emu cream also helps me, Good luck.
Oh Amy so sad you are suffering and then the perimenopausal issues too.
Fortunately i never had joint ailments but i have also taken the hydroxychloroquine as well as omega three fish oil since my problems began- i was on warfarin when i did this initially and it never bothered my INR- but they do say you have to be very careful. I take lovenox now. I do know i can only take a specific brand or it can cause me joint pains -thats how i know its working for me if you want to know specific one pm me and ill give it to you
I must say always have your doc aware of it
Hydroxychloroquinine gave me joint pain which I thought was ironic since from what I've read on this sight and the internet is that it's supposed to help. I take Tylenol and use CBD balm topically. Ice is also really great. 3 xs a day for 20 minutes at a time. Unfortunately, I can't take anti-inflammatories. At night, I sometimes take one oxycodone-acetominephen.
Personally I stay away from acetaminophen bc it depletes glutathione (a master antioxidant) and adversely impacts the liver (which will seriously mess with your hormones and cause all kinds of problems in your body).
For pain management I do the following: eat essentially organic, treat gut issues, take systemic/proteolytic enzymes (away from food, like serrapeptase and nattokinase - they have a blood thinning effect tho, so obviously you’d have to check with your physician), take magnesium glycinate before bed and magnesium taurate in the morning (a NutrEval test can tell you what *you* need), take Epsom salt baths 3-5x/week, chiropractic 2-4x/month, acupuncture 2-4x/month, yoga at least twice per week, take liposomal glutathione, one Brazil nut and 5 walnuts, cod liver oil (not fish oil, cod liver oil), eat 1 tablespoon of ghee daily, take turmeric and ginger (again might be blood thinning), eat 4-6 cups of fresh veggies and fruits daily, average 8 hours of sleep between the hours of 10pm or earlier until 6 or 7am (the time is critical for circadian rhythm functioning), and recently started doing hyperbaric oxygen treatments which got me to a 0 on the pain scale and completely clear-minded for a few hours (it was such an incredible feeling! The results are supposedly cumulative and it was only my second treatment, I’m looking forward to more!). I do more that is really tailored to me specifically, but the above is a good amount to support the system.
Basically in everything I do, I focus on how to reduce systemic inflammation and reduce or mitigate the toxic load on my body - I stay far, far, far away from pesticides, vaccines, plastics, harmful cosmetics/toiletries, only drink RO-filtered and remineralized water, definitely no sugar, no toxic fats, no gluten, no dairy, and none of my specific food allergies either. If you need support in any of this, find a good functional medicine doctor. Also do be sure to work out any trauma if you haven’t using EMDR or Trauma Resolution. Illuminate Wellness Maui does distance integrative health consults and intensive healing support. Wishing you all the best! Holding space for you as healthy, happy and healed!
I agree with some of the others, Plaquenil was a game changer for me. Been on it about 9 months now and I was talking to my hubby about how much better I’m walking and getting up and down. It happened so gradually I didn’t realize it until I thought about how bad I was before and how much better I am now. Hope it works for you
I was on Hydroxychloroquinine but had to stop as it gave me really pain stomach pain and worsened another condition that I have, since then I take paracetamol or co codamol thankfully they don't seem to effect my inr . As I'm getting a lot more pain in one of my knees its interesting to read what others are taking as these could be an option for me.
Hydroxyxhloroquine....200.mg twice daily.
Mycophenolate mofitil...500 mg twice daily.
5 mg prednisone daily.
A tylenol every so often, if pain returns. Usually only in my ring fingers.
I've been taking these for over 15 years with decent results.
Good luck to you!
Kerstin
