Hi, this can be a symptom of low Iron and low B12. So I hope your GP will look at your Ferritin and Folate and your B12 in detail, alongside your vitamin D levels. Sjogrens can also cause a problem with swallowing, also if you have any sort of goiter in your neck as a result of a Thyroid problem, including Hashimotos, this will also add to this problem.

You need very detailed testing and perhaps also think of ordering your own tests alongside the ones the GP is doing: medichecks.com/thyroid-func...

Thanks Mary, just had full bloods done today. I don’t have a Thyroid so that rules that out but going back tomorrow so will mention what you have said x

The test above is a detailed look at your Thyroid, and will also show if you are converting your T4 Levothyroxine to T3, unfortunately the tests done with the GP and often in clinics are not detailed enough, however it is great that some tests have been done, I hope you get some answers. You may also need to add a Reverse T3 test onto what is suggested above. MaryF

She said she does not have a thyroid gland Mary. She must have had it removed. 💋

Yes, I understand, however it is always a good idea to monitor the medication, given to replace what the Thyroid is not doing, ie Levothyroxine. the one size fits all regarding Thyroid care is appalling. MaryF

Mine has been between 20 - 25 for over 18 mths - took a while to convince doctors to give me infusion - had this in January - I now feel so much better, with many symptoms just disappearing esp. headaches..

Rest of results are back but the dr wants to see me , looks like we have things to discuss !!!

Please be aware your ferritin can be a false high if you have an autoimmune disease - esp. SS

So it actually be lower than 18

So I was told yes - but I couldn't get how much this effected the result.

All they said was it was false high.

I was also told that if less that 50 for 3 mths or more then an infusion was the only answer. But my local NHS still wouldn't help or recognise this.

I have no idea if this is relavant or helpful, but, my physician father told me that if I am having a swallowing issue it can often be because the coordinated muscles involved in the process get "stuck." He found an quick fix for himself (and me) was to take 10 very small sips in a row.

Maybe a barium swallow test is needed

I definitely think I have Sjogrens to many symptoms . Seeing ENT on Wednesday and Dr wants to speak to me re blood tests !!!

Good luck - I have secondary SS - I often have bad dry throat where I can't swallow. To the point I feel like I have flu or 'coming down with something'

I have spray saliva and take stepsills etc.

I hope you get help soon xx

Do you go hot in your face like you have a temp ?

HollyHeski profile image
HollyHeskiAdministrator

Oh yes - and hot & cold, clammy etc (I'm at the age if menopause - but went cold turkey with this after hysterectomy at 32 - but docs would still like to blame my age!!

I often wake at night with the feeling I've broken the virus/temperature without actually being ill.

Same here , I’m at that age to but no sweating just really hot in my face and neck and feel Ill it’s weird then it goes . If I look in the mirror I look flushed but pale if that makes sense

HollyHeski profile image
HollyHeskiAdministrator in reply to amy1808

Yes that makes sense, but couldn't all this be your menopause? The low ferritin could relate to this too?
