Abnormal TFT's

Got back my latest Thyroid results (and they will be repeated in 4 weeks) There has been a steady upward climb. TSH has gone from 1.75, 2.12, 3.08, and last one 4.49 (ref 0.4-4.00) and the TPO (Thyroid Peroxidase) came in at 16.7 (ref <5.6). This is leaning toward Hypothyroid and I'll get another panel of tests before I see my Rheumy in July.

Question for Admins-is this to be permanent or do these values fluctuate from time to time with APS? Apart from feeling a bit sluggish it doesn't seem to have an impact so far. My GP thinks it might be due to APS but will wait on the next lot of tests to see what direction the levels are taking.

I think my brain has gone somewhere! I did reply to your post yesterday and didn't press the button to send just clicked on the link for Thyroid so apparently it went to the ether somewhere. So thank you for your help, as always.

I fell over a week ago and although the Xray came back nothing broken I'm going for a CT this arvo as the GP suspects ligament damage. I have spectacular bruising on both sides of hand/wrist for garnering sympathy! Unfortunately it's in the same side as my Raynauds and so swollen i can't get a glove on. (more sympathy!) I will suss out an Endo (to add to my list of ('ologists') as I'll get my results in 2 weeks and will probably take at least that long to get an appt. and perhaps Rheumy will have recommendation. I get sufficient sunshine to not have a problem with Vit D, but I'll check out ferritin levels.

Can't get your link to work-could you post it again please? I did try but can only type 1 finger ATM and on pain killers so I'm extra foggy!!

These values _can_ fluctuate, and apparently the antibodies can even go away, but you have a clear trend upwards on TSH and high antibodies and this would indicate the disease (Hashimotos) which generally progresses rather than goes away. Your results are similar to mine (except my TSH went up to 8 ish) and on that basis my GP was prepared to prescribe thyroxine trial without further referral, although she did offer Endo referral if I wanted, and I did get a backup opinion on the results from my Rheumys - they backed the GP and said treat it, there is evidence that early treatment is better.

Low thyroid will definitely send your brain off somewhere else, other stuff and APS can do that as well, but best to get the thyroid treated and cross it off the list.

Have the mentioned Hashimotos to you? It is a separate disease, and we do tend to advice our members on here join Thyroid UK for their Thyroid Support, I am on there for mine. I don't have an Endocrinologist, but I do have the support of several good doctors, also a nutritionist, and I regularly test my D, B12 and Iron, I was pretty ill with it all but it is all behaving a bit better now, medication in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise. Mary and Ray-right now i have other things to worry about as my CT shows a shattered scaphoid and a couple of broken bones in my hand! have cast on my hand until i see hand clinic tomorrow to see if i may need surgery. apparently the first X-rays didn't show anything because of the huge amount of swelling around the hand/wrist.

Hashimotos is on the table so watch this space.......
